PREPARATION

Accompanist provided on this day only.

For ONCE: Prepare a short song in the style of the show (folk/rock etc) and bring musical instrument. Actors must accompany themselves on their instrument as they sing. There will be a piano in the audition room and an accompanist present on Feb 22 ONLY. There will be no accompanist present on Feb 23.

For THE MOUSETRAP and SEE HOW THEY RUN: Prepare a brief monologue in the style of a British thriller OR British farce.

Bring picture and resume.

Guy (25-35) a struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Brooding and charismatic. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Rock Tenor

Girl (25-30) - direct, intelligent, no nonsense and witty. Should have something ‘other’ about her. Has had to work hard at life but doesn't think she deserves any sympathy. Must play the piano and sing extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Mezzo Soprano

Reza (25-35) a sexy, funny, smart Czech girl. Often a bit larger than life. Must sing and play violin/fiddle extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Soprano

Eamon (25-50) the music studio manager where Guy and Girl record their album. A tough nut to crack but eventually gives into the musician’s talents. Must sing and play guitar (& piano) well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Piano, Melodica, Harmonica a plus. Baritone

Da (50-60) Guy's dad. A man of few words, but a lovely and caring father. Must play mandolin well, guitar/ukulele a plus. Must have a strong Irish accent.

Baruska (50-60) mother of Girl. A cool but caring Czech mother who likes a full house and full stomachs. Not many inhibitions. Must sing and play the accordion/piano well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. A plus if can play tambourine and Melodica. Alto

Bank Manager (35-50) seems quite prim and proper but has a secret passion for music. Must sing and play guitar & cello well. Must have a strong Irish (Cork) accent. Tenor

Andrej (25-35) earnest and kind. A gangly, slight man, made slighter by his oversized interview suit. An employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams. Must play guitar & bass guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Electric bass, ukelele, tambourine a plus. Baritone

Svejc (25-40) a bit of an odd ball. Loves television and coffee. Must play guitar & drum kit extremely well. Must have a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent. Banjo, mandolin and guitar a plus. Baritone

Ivanka (6-10) the sweet-natured daughter of Girl, should be comfortable on stage and have the ability to sing.

Ex-Girlfriend (25-35) Guy's ex-girlfriend who now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likeable. Must play violin extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Mezzo Soprano

Emcee (25-45) the emcee at a bar. A good-natured ball buster. Must sing and play guitar & piano extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Baritone

Billy (35-50) a large Irish man. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of Girl but also has a vulnerability. Must sing and play guitar well, ukulele and percussion a plus. Must have a strong Irish accent.

Instruments needed in ONCE: Piano, guitar, violin, cello, double bass, electric bass, mandolin, ukulele, accordion, banjo, harmonica and drums/percussion.

Mollie Ralston (late 20s – late 30s) co-owner with her husband Giles of Monkswell Manor; a bit naive on the surface but smart underneath. Not afraid to be feisty or confrontational when necessary. Good business woman. British dialect.

Giles Ralston (late 20s – late 30s) co-owner with his wife Mollie of Monkswell Manor; likeable yet occasionally arrogant man. A bit entitled and somewhat hapless. British dialect.

Christopher Wren (20s) a neurotic yet intelligent man described by others as ill mannered, and unhappy. Has an eye for antiques, architecture, art, and food. Under the surface he holds a profound need for love and acceptance. British dialect.

Mrs. Boyle (60s) The role of Mrs. Boyle is cast.

Major Metcalf (50s – 60s) a Scotland Yard detective, middle aged, military in manner and bearing, very good at his job. Excellent observer, able to deceive people, keen eye, equally keen wit. British dialect.

Miss Casewell (20s) smart, somewhat inscrutable, can be sardonic and passive aggressive. A little brazen and unpredictable, also harboring a secret from her past. Much pain under a tightly controlled seemingly placid surface. British dialect.

Mr. Paravicini (40s – 50s) international thief and smuggler on the lam, a fugitive from justice. Harming and occasionally diabolical, possessed of European airs and continental manners. British dialect.

Sgt. Trotter (20s) a cheerful, commonplace young detective with a slight cockney accent. However, underneath he is a vengeful schemer sitting on a deep well of pain and anger. Probably schizophrenic. British dialect.

The Reverend Lionel Toop (30s) Vicar of the local parish. Newlywed. Married to former American actress, Penelope. Straight-laced, very much in contrast to his wife. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. British dialect.

Penelope Toop (30s) former American actress. Newlywed. The madcap wife of the local vicar, Reverend Lionel Toop. Vivacious, charming, attractive. She lights up a room. A bit of a rebel. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. American dialect.

Corporal Clive Winton (30s) former American actor and old friend of Penelope’s from her acting days. A bit of a rebel like Penelope. Rather dashing, with a devil-may-care attitude. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. American dialect.

Ida (20s) the Toop’s maid. Cheeky. Does not suffer fools lightly but is loyal and playful enough to join in on the schemes. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. Cockney dialect.

Miss Skillon (60s) a busy-bodied spinster and member of Reverend Toop’s parish. The self-imposed town arbitrator of all that is proper and correct. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. British dialect.

The Intruder (20s - 40s) a captured Russian spy who has escaped from the nearby American military base. Ominous and very mysterious. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. Russian dialect.

The Bishop of Lax (50s – 70s) Penelope’s uncle who has come to town to visit his niece. Imposing, dignified, accustomed to getting his own way. Must be somewhat agile, though not as much as the others. British dialect.

The Reverend Arthur Humphrey (40s) a mild-mannered vicar from another parish. Sweet and slightly befuddled most of the time. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. British dialect.

Sergeant Towers (20s – 30s). A police constable. A loud, blustery, take charge kind of man. Must be agile and adept at physical comedy; running, jumping, falling, etc. Cockney dialect.
