Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Original musical. Setting: New York City, 1962. Steven, a 16-year-old Bronx Science High School student with a Rolleiflex camera and a science project, meets a legendary sex goddess with a particular liking for atomic theory. Thus begins a very secret and special friendship. Musical is conceived in an impressionistic, cinematic style. Elements from the imaginative mind of Steven are woven into the “natural action” of the play.

Seeking strong singers who move very well, for the following:

Natalie Kaplan:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Seeking actress 18+ to play age 16 believably. Natalie is a Bronx Science student. Down to earth, practical and appealing. Not exactly the prettiest girl in her class. It is the strength of her personality, candor and intelligence that makes her seem more attractive than she really is. Also has a NY Jewish, ironic sense of humor. Steven’s best friend and confidante. Great high Broadway belt voice.

Steven’s Father / Others:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Father: Late 30s - late 40s. Gruff, hard-working, no-nonsense Garment District businessman. Actor also plays a few other small roles. Baritone.

Steven’s Mother / Others:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Mother: Late 30s - late 40s. Housewife. Suffers from depression, but has a very original and quirky sense of humor. Actress also plays a few other small roles. Mezzo w/strong belt.

The following roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Steven Gottesman:

CAST. Actor 18+ to play age 16 believably. Character is Jewish. Charming, attractive, somewhat neurotic. Has an imaginative mind and ironic sense of humor. Accidentally meets Marilyn Monroe, and becomes her protector and trusted friend. Of course, as they are two lonely soulmates, he becomes infatuated with her. Character is not unlike Eugene in “Brighton Beach Memoirs”. Must be an excellent singer to Ab.

Marilyn:

CAST. Early – mid 30s. We meet MM the year before her suicide, while in NYC … full of hope, joy and love for the future. She seems to be at her most comfortable with herself. Not seeking an impersonation of MM, but the “essence” of her. Needs to have a wonderful physical presence, sexuality and sense of humor about herself. Blonde preferred, but not absolutely necessary. Strong singer and actor. Must have strong chest mix to Eb.

Frankie:

CAST. Late 30s – mid 40s. Steven’s imaginary Frank Sinatra. High baritone.

Statement of casting personnel: “We encourage actors of all ethnicities to attend this call.”
