Ken:
Charming, witty, gregarious African American performer who sings and moves well. Mid 30s. Rotund, with a wicked sense of humor. Must be adept in 1920’s-30’s period vocal stylings. Tenor.
Andre:
Sleek, slick, sexy, slightly dangerous African American performer who sings and has a strong dance background in period styles. Late 20s- mid 30s. A real ladies man. Bari-tenor.
Armelia:
Curvy, flirtatious African American performer who sings and moves very well. Mid 30s. Witty, with a ribald sense of humor. Must be adept in 1920’s-30’s period vocal stylings. Soprano.
Nell:
Earthy, raucous African American performer who sings and moves very well. Mid 30s. Sexy -- a real firecracker. Must be adept in 20’s-30’s period vocal stylings. Mezzo Soprano.
Charlaine:
Girlish, energetic African American performer who sings and has a strong dance background in period styles. Late 20s- mid 30s. The charming girl next door. Must be adept in 1920’s-30’s period vocal stylings. Mezzo Soprano.
Luther:
Accomplished pianist well versed in all musical styles including stride, jazz, and the standard Broadway vernacular. Indeterminate age. Some facility in musical direction a plus. Preferably African American.

Captain von Trapp:
Sensitive, but emotionally shut down professional Naval captain. A widower and father of 7 children aged 5-16. Tall, rugged, handsome leading man of indeterminate age. Sings and moves well. Baritone.
Rolf Gruber:
Romantic juvenile who sings and dances well. Straight forward and masculine. Must be convincing as a teenager. Bari-tenor.
Max Detweiler:
Wily, but charming character man of indeterminate age. Cultured, with a witty sense of humor. Sings and moves well.
Maria Rainer:
Fresh, guileless and somewhat girlish leading lady who sings and moves very well. Mid-late 20s. Athletic in demeanor. Honest, but with a quirky sense of humor. Preferably no shorter than 5’4. Soprano.
Liesl:
Romantic ingenue who sings and dances well. Somewhat sheltered. Every parent’s dream of the perfect daughter or girl next door. Must be convincing as a 16 year old. Preferably no taller than 5’2”. Soprano.
Mother Abbess:
Warm, wise, and sensible leader of a religious order. Mature, but of an indeterminate age. Must be a classically trained dramatic Soprano. Strong acting background a plus.
Elsa Schraeder:
Elegant, cultured, somewhat pampered leading lady of indeterminate age. Charming, but used to getting her way. An Aryan queen. Must sing and move well. Soprano.

A professional Aviator in the Charles Lindbergh mode. Charming, attractive, robust leading man who sings well and has a strong background in tap and other period dance styles. Late 20s-30s.
Reverend Montgomery:
Eccentric, street savvy, revivalist-style Minister of indeterminate age. Charming, but with a touch of the snake-oil salesman about him. Must sing and move well. Baritone.
Mr. Magix:
Elegant and charismatic “star” tap dancer who sings. Mature, but of an indeterminate age. Must be adept in all period styles of dance including rhythm tap. A true hoofer. Prefer to cast role as an African American.
Prince Nikki:
Wily and imposing “Russian” prince who sings and moves well. Mid-30s. Comic skills a real plus. Also facility in dialects. Baritone.
New Rhythm Boy:
Featured tap dancer who sings well. Tenor. Early 20s-30s. Must be comfortable with tight vocal harmonies and all styles of period dance. Prefer to cast role as an African American.

Raucous, no-nonsense, but lovable female mechanic. Of indeterminate age. Must sing. Should have a zany sense of humor and a unique unforgettable personality all her own.
