SEEKING:
[DELORIS VAN CARTIER] Female, African-American, 25 – 40. A disco diva wannabe with a mega-watt dream of Donna Summer-eque glory. Mouthy, ballsy, brassy, and quick on the quip—she has no faith in anything or anyone but herself. Needs a powerhouse disco diva voice with a range up to the skies.
[MOTHER SUPERIOR] Female, Caucasian, 45 – 65. An old-school Catholic traditionalist with a spine of steel, a will of iron, an acid tongue, and a hidden heart. Strong, unwavering voice—mezzo.
[CURTIS JACKSON] Male, African-American, late 30s – 50. A super cool, super confident, super smooth bad guy with soul. He is a tough narcissist with flair, sex appeal, and charisma. He is elegant and dangerous. Needs to be extremely strong-voiced with big range. Low baritone or high baritenor—a strong falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons) a big plus.
[LT. EDDIE SOUTHER] Male, African-American, 25 – 45. A Desk Cop. He is charming and straightforward, but his gun is locked in a drawer, as it were. Should have a beautiful high baritone or tenor.
[SISTER MARY ROBERT] Female, Caucasian, 18 – 25. A young and timid novitiate, teetering on the decision of whether to take her final vows or leave the convent to rejoin the world that intimidates her so. Her shy personality masks a huge, powerful singing voice. Sings a big Act II solo, “The Life I Never Led.” Should have an "unexpectedly" huge belt, along with a legit/mix up to the rafters.
[SISTER MARY PATRICK] Female, Caucasian, 25 – 45. Upbeat, corny, fun, and filled with love and delight in God, food, and friendship. She is a loyal sister and head cheerleader always ready for an adventure, a life experience, or between-meal snack. Has a heavyset physique. Needs a strong belt and legit voice. PRINCIPAL
[SISTER MARY LAZARUS] Female, Caucasian, 60s – 70s. Tough, out of the Depression Era, full of vinegar and humor, with twice the energy of anyone half her age. She's seen them come and go, and nothing fazes this Sister. She's quick on the wisecracks and always ready to roll up her sleeves and dig in. Strong belt and legit a plus, but more importantly, needs to be able to rap and be very funny.
[MONSIGNOR O’HARA] Male, Caucasian, 50s – 60s. Stately but benevolent, with a "Going My Way" twinkle. Strong character actor with strong baritone voice.
[TJ] Male, African-American, 20s – 40s. Curtis' nephew. An undersized, overeager young man who would do anything to please his uncle, much to his uncle’s dismay. He’s well-intended, but doesn’t always have the brain power to think ahead. Must have comic chops. Very strong tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).
[JOEY] Male, Caucasian, 30s – 40s. Big, burly, and fiercely loyal. He is the heavyset one of the trio. Joey fancies himself a master in the ways of lovemaking. Must have comic chops. Strong baritone, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).
[PABLO] Male, Latino, 20 – 35. Curtis' bodyguard who keeps mouthing off in Spanish. Must have comic chops. Strong baritone or tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).
