STORY: Set against the backdrop of the pre World War I Armenian genocide, SILENCE… is the story of a woman’s courageous journey to survive, embrace her family and preserve her Armenian heritage.

Seeking:

Kahlil Bey: Male, late 50 – 70. Cunning and merciless head of the Ottoman Security Agency in Van. He is the father of Ihsan. A Turkish despot, militaristic, and unyielding in his pursuits. Actor must be fearless in portraying a man who operates void of human compassion without making the character a melodramatic villain.

Ihsan: 40 to 55. Turkish surgeon and friend to Dr. Hagop and Shooshan. He is the son of Kahlil Bey and is the antithesis of his father. His friendship and help to Hagop and Shooshan mark him as weak and as a traitor to his father. His actions go against the expectations of his Turkish birth. He is kind and possesses an intelligent and quiet courage that set the tone of humanity throughout the play.

Dr. Hagop: 40. Armenian surgeon, husband of Shooshan and mentor and friend to Ihsan . He is an intelligent humanitarian, devoted to his wife children and friend. Politically aware, he acts with courage and caution to keep his family protected in every way.

Orhan: 17 years old – seeking older who can play younger. Adopted son of Ihsan. He was burned in a fire while very young and has. He wears an eye patch as well. He is forced by his grandfather, Kahlil Bey to spy on Dr. Susane Smith. He is a gifted artist, raised as a Turk but has interests in all of the architecture and the beauty that is part of the city of Van.. Because of the conflicting forces that guide this character, we are open to seeing older actors who still look late teens as well as actual teens
