Takes place at a ramshackle retreat in the Nevada desert, one of the few places men can go to secure a quick divorce in 1950s America. But in an era of heightened fears and political distrust, accusations that one of the men is hiding more than just a broken heart test each man's loyalty — to country and to one another.

Seeking (all roles are available):

Ben Clancy:

40s. Former high school teacher. WWII veteran. Intellectual. Witty. Wise, with life experience to share. Introspective; a hard man to know. Has created a self-imposed exile. He is the unofficial leader and father figure of the group.

Caleb Farley:

19. An idealist. Clear-eyed and intelligent. Not quite naïve, but still unscarred. Electrician for a Hollywood studio. Private and withdrawn upon his arrival at the camp. Strong moral center. Willing to go to great lengths to protect the wife he is in Nevada to divorce.

Alvin Novotny:

Early - mid 40s. Character role. Jewish man from Queens, NY. Sensitive. Hopeless romantic. Sad sense of humor. Loves his wife, and is the only man at the retreat who doesn’t actually want a divorce. The comradeship he finds at the retreat helps him begin to imagine a future without his wife.

Gerald Driscoll:

Early 40s. Hot-headed former military man. Physically imposing. Sharp and astute, with a quick tongue. Can be irrational, with a temper. May have a tough exterior, but inside is a man who is broken. Lost his son in a terrible accident, and has come to the community to start his life over.

Mrs. Duke:

African American, 40s. Owner of the retreat in the Nevada desert. Sharp- tongued. Prickly. No-nonsense . Always knows what’s going on around her. Works hard to provide for her family, and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her livelihood. Tough, but has a good heart.

Chrissie Myers:

Woman, 21. A “companion” to the middle-aged men at the retreat. Charming and attractive. Dying to leave this small town and the toxic home of her abusive father. Naïve and optimistic enough to believe this retreat could be her ticket to a better life. In love with Ben, but allows Gerald to pay her for her time and favors.

Robert Hanratty:

Late 30s-40s. US federal agent. Sharp and quick-witted. Unwavering. Intense man of the law. Driven in his McCarthy-ist mission to eradicate communism. Nothing gets past him.
