At the height of his fame, Mark Rothko, under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, takes on his greatest challenge yet: to paint a group of murals for an extraordinary setting, the expensive and exclusive Four Season Restaurant. The brilliant master wrestles with his new apprentice in a battle of wits over a bucket of paint. This play is a moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century whose struggle to accept his growing riches and praise became his ultimate undoing.

SEEKING:

Ken:

(Male, 20s) A Waspy mid-westerner. He is the assistant to Mark Rothko. A painter, and probably a very good one; he seems young, naïve, and malleable at first but gradually reveals a spine of steel. Underneath his pleasant exterior, he reveals deep reservoirs of pain. Actor must have a great stillness and concentration.
