Title may change. Raucous comedy about a women's book club in Westchester County. Chaos ensues when the leader of the group, Jocelyn, announces that she has sold the club as a new “reality” show to a large cable network.
Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):
Megan:
Caucasian, 40s-50s. WASPy. Dignified. Wears her money. Caustic wit, almost a bully. Trying very hard to be Jewish (married a Jewish man). Would rather drink than read at the book club. While Jocelyn spends much of her time making fun of Megan’s recent conversion to Judaism, the two share a special connection as it relates to their philandering ex-husbands.
Kerry:
Caucasian woman, 20s-30s. Sexy, hilariously ditzy, new-age-y, not-too-bright, but sweet and sincere. Doesn’t like to be ridiculed: wears her emotions on her blouse. Feels things very deeply. Constantly bewilders the group with her absolute dimness. She would probably require CliffsNotes™ just to find her house keys. Role for a brilliant comedienne. Lead.
Carson:
Man, any ethnicity, late 20s - early 30s. Director from the network; has come to meet Jocelyn and the book club. Arrogant, self-centered. SMARMY, OBNOXIOUS, PRETENTIOUS. Has a borderline child-like petulance. Speaks his mind all the time: “insensitive” would be appropriate here. Supporting. Also seeking Carson Understudy.
Margrit:
Latina, llate 20s - late 30s. Carson’s producer. No-nonsense, tough-as-nails, all business (but in a bratty"don't-I-look-cute-while-I'm-doing-it" kind of way). Complements Carson in her poseur way, but feels she’s more important than he is. Tells the ladies “like it is”. Type A. Supporting.
Understudy for Jocelyn and Megan:
Both characters are Caucasian women. Track age: 50s. See above for Megan’s description. Jocelyn: Onstage role is cast; seeking understudy only. Caucasian woman, 50s. Head of the book club. Sells the idea of the book club to a “reality TV” network without telling the other members. Upscale, uptight, self-righteous. Great sense of comedy needed. Lead.
Understudy for Kerry, Margrit and Sara:
All three characters are women. Track age/ethnicity: 30s-40s/Caucasian. See above for descriptions of Kerry and Margrit. Sara: Onstage role is cast; seeking understudy only. Caucasian woman, 30s-40s. Wishes we all could just “get along”. Great sense of comedy needed. Lead.
