BREAKDOWN
Story line: This is an experiential show about pornography.
Prurience takes place at the meeting of a fictional self-help group for porn addicts. It's an immersive theatre show that invites the audience to take a playful look at how we consume pornography. Everyone in the room including the audience is at the meeting. Everyone might have a problem. The boundaries between reality and fiction, audience and actor blur to create an electric and politically arousing experience. While Prurience is apparently about porn addiction, it is as much about our relationship to capitalism, our over consumption of everything, be that sugar, sex or social media. It asks the audience how and if we can take back control, or whether we even need to... Asking the audience whether we're in the grip of a real addiction crisis or a moral panic, whether they're at a real meeting. or just watching a show, and does it even matter.
Seeking actors who are highly skilled at improvisation, immersive theatre and comfortable with controversial subject matter. Please note this piece is using the subject of pornography addiction in a metaphorical manner.
The role of AUDIENCE PLANT requires minimal rehearsal & the stipend rate is TBD for that role
