This new production translates the journey of Pippin to a contemporary story of the search for extraordinary fulfillment in the frame of a rock and roll fable. Using a small ensemble ofactor/musician/dancers, this version of PIPPIN will focus on our hero's desire for greatness frustrated by a metaphoric failure to fully become the “rock star” he knows he can be. Will our young star be tempted to succumb to the fate of heroes who die too young, or will he learn that the ordinary pleasures of life can fulfill even the most star-struck soul? In other words, is it better to burn out, or to fade away? The Rep's Pippin will be entirely true to the original but feature a company driven musical vocabulary and inventive theatricality to tell one of the greatest coming of age stories in the modern musical theatre.
The production team is approaching this as a rock fable where the actors will need to be able to carry various styles of rock concert performances, from punk rock wild energy to more theatrical styles
*Many of the characters will appear in very little clothing at times (no nudity, but typical rock attire)
