Equity actors for roles in 2021-22 season (see breakdown).


INSTRUCTIONS

Required: 2 contrasting contemporary monologues; 1 comedic and 1 dramatic. Total length time: 120 seconds (2 minutes).

Headshot and resume also required with virtual submission. Submit video audition pieces, headshot and resume at https://www.phoenixtheatre.org/work-with-us.

Virtual submission until midnight CT, August 6, 2021.

BREAKDOWN

Alabaster
All roles are Women between the ages of 21-65 of any ethnicity.

June, from the South, an artist, emotionally scarred and self-isolated with PTSD from the loss of family and possessions due a tornado. Sexually attracted to Alice.

Alice, a lesbian NY photographer, carrying emotional scars in life and trying to escape her pain. Sexually attracted to June.

Weezy, 1st “farm goat” living on the farm with June, listens sympathetically and comments on June and Alice’s situations. Dialogues with Bib.

Bib, 2nd “farm goat”, older mature goat, living on the farm with June, listens sympathetically and comments on June and Alice’s situations. Dialogues with Weezy.

1 Equity Actor is pre-cast. Alabaster is re-scheduled from Phoenix 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 shutdown. The one Equity actor will return for upcoming production.


Bakersfield Mist:

Maude – 50ish, unemployed bartender, from a trailer park, lacks social graces but confident and comfortable in her stage of life and economic situation. Maude is seeking confirmation from Lionel to the authenticity of a thrift shop purchase of artwork.

Lionel Percy (age 40-65) – New Yorker, professional art dealer, highly educated, socially superior to Maude. Has a condescending attitude (“Tim Gunn” type). Interacts with Maude on authenticity of the artwork.


Love Bird:
Both Males are between age 21-65 any ethnicity.

Nigel – Bird with a broken heart. Dealing with loneliness, self-doubt and the devotion in relationships

Bird (un-named) – interested in Nigil as a “bird mate” for a relationship and challenages Nigil in his loneliness.


The Magnolia Ballet:

Ezekiel VI - 21-35, African-American and gay seeking to renew and build stronger relationship with his father. Proud of being gay but seeking acceptance and healing of the past from father.

Ezekiel V - 50-65, African-American father of Ezekiel VI – survivor of racism in a small town and proud Black man. Unhappy Ezekiel IV (son), is homosexual and he did not fight against racism so son can be “gay.

Apparition (Ghost) 21-35, African-American - verbally re-calls moments of racisim in small town.

Danny Mitchell – 21-35, white, Friend of Ezekiel V and partner. Sympathic to Ezekiel’s relationship with his father but looks forward to a life with Ezekiel.


AIDS, No Maids:

Moderator (African-American - 21-65, any gender) – Addresses and provides commentary of the history of African-Americans in media, television and film. Re-enacts memorable moments of actors and characters with the use of digitial media. Portions of commentary are dramatic and comedic. Moderator has a somewhat dry witt delivery.
