BREAKDOWN

[DUBBA J]
African American, Early 60s. Dubba J’s real name is Willie James but folks call him WJ, which often sounds like Dubba J. He worked in a shop making construction vehicles for almost thirty years until the market crash of 1987, then his company forced him into early retirement. He now runs the family business that his wife started – the neighborhood candy house. Running the candy house gives Dubba J a new lease on life. And he’s not ready to let go.

[ROSE]
African American, Early 20s. She sees herself as a business woman first and foremost. Works for the neighborhood crack dealer. She’s his number two. She’s the enforcer. She grew up in the neighborhood and the candy house has always been and remains her second home and a sanctuary in chaotic times. The candy house is where she can let down her guard and her natural warmth and kindness begins to peak through. ACTOR PLAYING ROSE MUST BE COMFORTABLE EATING ONSTAGE (MEAT, JUNK FOOD, ETC.)
