Breakdown
George Milton: a farmhand who accepts day labor who travels with, cares for and assumes
responsibility for Lennie (and their shared dream of life on their future farm)

Curley’s Wife: never named, the only woman on the ranch – lonely for friendship or
companionship; dreams of a missed life of glamour or self-expression

Curley: a small, cocky, aggressive man; son of the boss

Slim: a highly skilled mule driver; the other men respect and defer to him; able to understand,
empathize with George

Carlson: ranch-hand – pushes Candy to part with his old, smelly dog/pet; executes the dog
offstage

Whit: ranch-hand – defends Candy and his dog against Carlson; literate, “sociable” – befriends
George

The Boss: un-named; the ranch’s superintendent for the “big land company” that owns the
property; can “give ‘em hell”, gets mad sometimes, but, says Candy, can be “pretty nice”

Curley’s wife – should play in late teen’s up to mid-20s
