SEEKING:
Alya:
Afghani Female, 13. Interested in seeing actual teenagers or actors who can convincingly play 13 years old. Tough, smart, strong, logical. She is wise beyond her years and extremely articulate. She can be rigid and practical to a fault until the impulsive fantasies of a thirteen year old girl sneak through. There is an inherent lightness in her even in the darkest of times. She is inquisitive like a scientist and takes great pleasure in that. Physically, she should very much appear to be in the throws of puberty, height is less important than build. She may sound older than she actually looks. Must feel comfortable with a very general British accent and be able to carry a tune. Clear speaking voice and vocal strength necessary as she wears a Burqa for half the show.
Meena:
Afghani Female, 15. Interested in seeing actual teenagers or actors who can convincingly play 15 years old. Smart and tough but much more of a dreamer than her sister Alya. There is an inherent lightness in her even in the darkest of times. Meena is beautiful and dreams of poetry and romance but can hold her own in an argument. She is very much into being a fifteen year old but can also be quite maternal toward her sister. There is a softer more reckless quality to her than to Alya. Must feel comfortable with a very general British accent and be able to carry a tune. Should move well.
Sergio:
(Latin Male, early 20s). American soldier who was deployed in Afghanistan. Chicano. He is very much one of the boys. Likes to carouse with women and get trashed with the boys. Had somewhat idealized going to war. There is a certain violence to him but underneath it all he is a sweet and earnest Mama’s boy who would do anything to get an education.
