USNAVI DE LA VEGA: 24-year-old owner of De La Vega’s Bodega, his parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic and have since passed away. He lives with Abuela Claudia. In love with Vanessa, but comically has no game and is shy. He is the mayor of the streets, the eyes and ears of his Washington Heights neighborhood. Strong actor, must be an excellent rapper and a good mover. Singing a plus.

NINA ROSARIO: 19-year-old Nina is the first one in her family to attend college at Stanford University. The beloved and only daughter of Kevin and Camila Rosario, working class parents who run the car service, love interest of Benny, and best friends with Vanessa. An overachiever, she’s the role model, straight A student but going through tough times. Strong belt/mix to an E. Must be an excellent mover.

KEVIN ROSARIO: 40s, owner of Rosario Car and Limousine, husband to Camila and father to Nina. Born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he immigrated to New York City began work as a mechanic before building up to buying his own business. Charismatic and proud, this self-made man is also stubborn, hot tempered, but always wants the best for his family. Strong actor-singer who moves well.

CAMILA ROSARIO: 40s, she is the co-owner of Rosario Car and Limousine with her husband Kevin. Also from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she fell in love with Kevin at 19 and immigrated with him to New York City. Strong, fiery yet pragmatic woman with a deep love for her family. Singing actor who moves well.

BENNY: 24-year-old driver for Rosario Car and Limousine, where he has worked since a teenager. Ambitious and optimistic, he has aims to have his own business one day. Handsome, charming man who crushes on Nina. Preferably African American. Strong singer and excellent mover.

VANESSA: A 19-year-old shampoo girl at Daniela’s Salon. Sexy, vivacious, charismatic with strong dreams of leaving the Heights, away from her alcoholic mother. With traffic stopping good looks, she knows how to use it except with the shy Usnavi. Strong belt/mix to an E. Must be an excellent dancer.

SONNY: 15 years old and Usnavi’s cousin, Sonny works for Usnavi at the bodega. Loud mouthed, though endearing with his naïvete and youth. Smart young man and also a smartass who genuinely loves the barrio. Comic actor, must be a good rapper and an excellent mover.

ABUELA CLAUDIA: Late 60’s, who raised Usnavi after his parents passed away and continues to live with him. She emigrated from Cuba when she was very young. Abuela Claudia has been in the Heights the longest and is the veritable matriarch to all, always caring, feeding everyone in the neighborhood. She has had a difficult immigrant life with the stress of years of low-paying jobs and struggles with the language; it shows in her physically. Strong belt to a C.

DANIELA: late 20s-early 40s, Latina. Quick witted, brassy and outspoken, she is a no-nonsense successful owner of Daniela’s Salon. Gossip queen of the neighborhood. Confident and strong, she is a big sister figure to Vanessa and Carla. Comic actress with a strong belt. Should be an excellent mover.

CARLA: mid-20s to early 30s, a hairdresser at Daniela’s Salon. She is Dominican, Cuban, Chilean and Puerto Rican but born and raised in Queens. Funny, perhaps unintentionally, and not the brightest bulb in the room, but has a sunny disposition all the same. Comic actor with strong belt mix. Should be an excellent mover.

GRAFFITI PETE: 18-year-old graffiti artist, any ethnicity, talented though undiscovered artist, always dancing with boom box in tow. Buddies with Sonny. Rough around the edges with a dangerous quality. Must be an extremely strong dancer. Acrobatics a plus.

PIRAGUA GUY: Mid-30s, he diligently sells piraguas (flavored ice shavings) in the Heights to earn a living. He represents a rhythm of the islands in the big city. Bright, soaring tenor.

ENSEMBLE: (Male and Female, 20s and 30s, Latinx) Good singers, must be excellent creative movers and dancers with some attitude and swagger of the Heights.

“The writers encourage diverse casting—Jane Austen belongs to everyone.”

MARY BENNET (Female, 20, any ethnicity) Finally coming into her own, she is no longer the plain, boring girl she once was. She has a fire in her now. She is intelligent, curious, and lively, but her family only sees her as a future spinster. She does not suffer fools. She wants to live.

CHARLES BINGLEY (Male, 25, any ethnicity) Gracious, happy, and ever focused on the love of his life, Jane. A good friend and always ready with a smile.

LYDIA WICKHAM (Female, 17, any ethnicity) Flirtatious, youthful, self-centered. Her marriage to Mr. Wickham is a sham but she will not admit this. She is the person you want to have at your party: energetic, engaging, unstoppable.

ANN DE BOURGH (Female, 20s, any ethnicity) Only daughter of the late Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Lived in her mother’s very large shadow, never having to ask for anything or speak for herself her entire life. Judgmental and impatient, just like her mother.

The steel business has fallen on hard times, and Everson Jr continues to see through the diversification of the company begun under his father’s regime. Though not quite the brilliant businessman his father was, Everson Jr makes up for it with heart and in loyalty.

MAXIMILIEN CIZIK (Male, late 40s, White): “Max.” Investment Banker at Lausanne & Co. Adviser to Everson. Urbane, measured, sophisticated. Born in Prague, but brought up in America. KEVIN WALSH (Male, early 30s, African-American): Assistant US Attorney, Fraud Unit. Punctilious and indefatigable.

AMY MERKIN (Female, 40s, White): Robert’s wife. Merkin’s business school sweetheart. A financial wizard in her own right. Merkin’s deepest collaborator.

MARK O’HARE (Male, 40s, White): An arbitrageur. Irish-American. Born and raised in heyday of Hell’s Kitchen. A street fighter who rides the market’s currents.

CORRIGAN WILEY (Male, 50s, White): Attorney for O’Hare. Gruff and loyal. Hailing from a family that has served counsel to generations of the Irish Mob.

DEVON ATKINS (Male, late 20s, White): An arbitrageur. A kid, in over his head.

MURRAY LEFKOWITZ (Male, 50s, White): One of Merkin’s investors.
