Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):
Larry Bird:
Caucasian man, late 20s-30s. An athlete. Fiercely competitive, uncompromisingly honest, he says what he thinks and wastes no words. Despite international success, he has a small-town suspicion of strangers, and loyalty to friends. His laconic, Southern-farmboy demeanor conceals an intelligent man with a killer instinct. Taller is good.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson:
African American man, late 20s-30s. An athlete. Charismatic, energetic and the life of the party. Fiercely competitive, outgoing, gregarious and a friend to everyone he meets. This man could sell ice cubes to the Eskimos – unlimited ambition, ego and charm, all in one package. Taller is good.
Red Auerbach / Tommy:
Two roles for one actor. Caucasian men, late 40s - late 50s. Auerbach: Legendary Celtics coach and manager. Tough and shrewd. Born and raised in Brooklyn, with a cigar in his mouth. A raconteur. Tommy: Blue-collar sports-bar owner from Boston. Obsessive sports fan.
Frank / Cooper:
Two roles for one actor. African American men, late 20s - late 30s. Frank: Affable, smart, well-read Boston firefighter and sports fan. Cooper: Professional NBA player for the Lakers, and one of Magic's best friends. He’s a good guy, a smart player and a family man. Taller is good.
Georgia Bird / Shelly:
Two roles for one actor. Caucasian women, mid 40s - early 50s. Georgia: Larry’s mom. She's irresistibly honest, blunt and charming. Loves family, God and basketball. Has a wry wit, and is a fanatic about stats. Shelly: Working-class Boston bartender. Tough and funny. Some sex appeal. Also seeking Understudy for this role.
Understudy for Johnson / Frank / Cooper / Willy / Baxter:
To cover African American male characters, late 20s - late 30s. Versatile, athletic, charming.
Understudy Bird / Auerbach / Tommy:
Track age: 30s - early 40s. To cover Caucasian male roles. Versatile, athletic, gritty.
Willy / Baxter:
CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Two roles for one actor. African American men, late 20s - late 30s. Willy: Fanatic Boston sports fan … except that he's a Magic fan – and a bit too loud about it when he's drinking. Baxter: Shrewd sports agent to Magic Johnson.
