SEEKING

Equity actors for all roles in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, a new musical based on the film, performing at the Aurora Fox from June 6 to 29. (see breakdown).

PREPARATION

1-minute contemporary monologue and 16-32 bars of a song from a contemporary musical. Bring sheet music in the correct key. Please do not perform selections from this show. Please incorporate movement into your monologue to further your storytelling. Total audition less than 5 min.

BREAKDOWN

1. Olive Hoover - 8–10. The heart of the show, Olive is a quirky, optimistic young girl with dreams of winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. She’s innocent, slightly awkward, and full of unfiltered joy. Requires strong acting and singing.

2. Sheryl Hoover - 30s–40s. Olive’s mom, a loving but stressed woman trying to hold the family together. She is practical but emotional and balances warmth with a no-nonsense attitude.

3. Richard Hoover - 30s–40s. Olive’s dad, a struggling motivational speaker obsessed with winning. He tries to maintain a positive outlook but often feels out of his depth.

4. Dwayne Hoover - 15–18. Olive’s teenage half-brother. He’s a silent, moody Nietzsche enthusiast who has taken a vow of silence. Over the course of the show, he discovers his own voice.

5. Grandpa Edwin Hoover - 60s–70s. Olive’s fun-loving and foul-mouthed grandfather. He’s rebellious and full of life, providing comic relief and poignant moments.

6. Frank Ginsberg - 30s–40s. Sheryl’s brother, an academic recovering from a suicide attempt after losing both his lover and career. Witty and sardonic, he’s a mix of humor and vulnerability.

7. Buddy/Panera Jerry - 20s–30s. A laid-back mechanic who helps the family with their broken-down van. Also doubles as other characters. Requires versatility and comedic timing.

8. Miss California - 20s–30s. A poised and polished former pageant winner who serves as a mentor figure to Olive at the beauty pageant.

9. Kirby/Other Pageant Dads - 30s–50s. Kirby is the pageant emcee, an overly enthusiastic and slightly smarmy character. Actor may double in other roles.

10. Pageant Contestants (ensemble) - Age: 8–12. Olive’s competitors in the beauty pageant. These roles require comedic timing and over-the-top character work, often playing into exaggerated stereotypes of beauty pageant participants.
