Seeking: (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):
Anna:
Late 20s/30s. Ivy League-educated. Now an adjunct in the English department at Columbia University. Hard worker. Quietly ambitious. Strong sense of obligation towards others; tendency to put their needs before her own. Her mother died when she was 16 years old.
Sean:
Late 20s/30s. Personal trainer. Born and raised in rural Ireland, living in New York. A loner -- in part, because he’s shy (which he doesn’t know). Complex emotionally, but not one to look inward. Feels guilt at straying so far from home, but dreads returning every Christmas. Kind. Enthusiastic.
Adam:
55-65. Anna’s father. Tall, thin, still in excellent physical condition. High-ranking military official; reliable guardian of secrets. Intimidating. Born on the East Coast, but lives in Texas. Reports to DC on a regular basis.
Linda:
Irish, 55-65. Sean’s mother. Lives in Ireland. Borderline alcoholic; bottomless pit of need. Wicked sense of humor. As with Helena, what makes her a bearable and even inspiring personality is that wrestling with her self-pity is an indomitable spirit. May appear, at first, to have given up on life, but hasn’t.
Rachel:
30s. Former girlfriend of Sean’s. Recovering addict. Beautiful. One who has weathered the storm and now fears nothing.
Kay:
55-65. A dying woman, full of life. Full of showmanship and entirely authentic. Born in Texas; currently in DC. Adam’s former lover.
Simon / Gideon:
Simon: 40s. Professor. Charismatic. Self-obsessed. Gideon: 30s. From North Carolina. Masculine. Works with his hands. A flirt, but not a sleaze.
The following two roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.
Helena:
CAST. Late 20s/30s. Anna’s oldest friend. Talented but difficult actress. Born in the South; lives in New York. The pain of under-employment, poverty and rejection is beginning to translate into her looks as well as her spirit. Her accent is faded, but has not disappeared.
Max:
CAST. Irish, 55-65. Linda’s brother. Lives in Ireland. Not the sharpest tool in the box, not the dullest. More comfortable in the company of women than men, though he’d never admit it. Born working class, climbed to the middle, making a decent life for himself as a clothing importer. Lives with his wife, whom he adores. Lives six hours from his sister. This was his wife’s design.
