PREPARATION
Please prepare either one brief Shakespeare and one brief contemporary monologue, OR two brief Shakespeare monologues. Please bring a stapled headshot and resume.

- SHERLOCK HOLMES — 30s-40s, female-identifying. A once-in-a-generation genius. Eccentric, focused to a fault, sometimes less-than-sensitive. Always playing psychological 3-D chess; operates on a different level than civilians. Megalomaniac streak. Gets bored easily; likes applause; sometimes accused of being unfeeling. Loves costumes and drama.
- DR. JOAN WATSON — 30s-40s, female-identifying. American. Formerly type-A high-achiever. Recently divorced; struggling to find herself, feels broken. Reflexively defensive. Once had great bedside manner. Wry, smart.
- IRENE ADLER / MRS. HUDSON / MRS. DREBBER — Late 20s-40s, female-identifying.
Irene Adler: A whip-smart, super-charming sex worker finding success at the highest levels. Charming, confident, witty; uses her attributes without mercy.
Mrs. Hudson: Holmes & Watson’s long-suffering landlady.
Mrs. Drebber: Seemingly an ordinary housewife — someone you would be wise not to underestimate. - MORIARTY / LESTRADE / ELLIOT MONK — 30s-50s, male-identifying.
Moriarty: A criminal mastermind and master blackmailer; always playing psychological 3-D chess, wears many masks, amoral but charismatic.
Lestrade: An inspector new to his position at Scotland Yard; not very imaginative and often says the wrong thing.
Elliot Monk: An amoral tech billionaire from Texas.
Sweeney Todd

- Sweeney Todd — Sweeney escaped from prison after being wrongfully accused and jailed for fifteen years. Formerly a proud barber, a loving husband and father; now consumed by loss and revenge. Charming but hot-tempered, ferocious yet vulnerable. Strong baritone/bass who can whistle. Speaks with an Estuary or London dialect.
- Mrs. Lovett — An entrepreneurial meat pie shop owner who will do whatever it takes to survive. In love with Todd and hopes he’ll build a new life with her. Resourceful, ambitious, charismatic, great comedic timing. Mezzo with belt. Speaks with a Cockney accent.
- Anthony Hope — A youthful sailor, idealistic and romantic, falls in love with Johanna. Tenor. Standard British accent (RP).
- Johanna — Todd's long-lost daughter and Judge Turpin's ward. Rebellious, subversive, romantic. Soprano. Standard British accent (RP). Note: Although described as “pale” and “yellow haired,” we are not taking this literally.
- Tobias Ragg — A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli and then Mrs. Lovett. Industrious, eager to please, funny. Tenor. Cockney accent.
- Judge Turpin — A lecherous public official who is sanctimonious and hypocritical. Bass/baritone. Standard British accent (RP).
- Beadle Bamford — A pompous public official with a dry, deadpan humor. Tenor with a strong falsetto. Standard British accent (RP).
- Beggar Woman / Lucy Barker — An eerie, poor soul living on the streets; Sweeney’s wife Lucy, who lost her mind after trauma. Mezzo. Cockney or Estuary accent.
- Adolfo Pirelli — An Irish former employee of Sweeney’s with a flamboyant Italian barber persona. A charlatan; over-the-top comedic. May possess some anti-English sentiments.
- Jonas Fogg — Owner of Fogg's Asylum. An authoritarian who ignores patients' rights in the name of science. Speaking role who sings with the ensemble. Estuary dialect.
- Ensemble — Acts as a Greek Chorus, commenting on action and participating in the tale. Sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones, and basses. Accents not necessary. The ensemble is showcased with solos and harmonies throughout the show.
