Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):

Casting directors’ note: “Interested in actors of all ethnicities and physical types.”

Myrtle Mae Simmons: Mid 20s. Veta’s daughter. Extremely concerned about her social standing, and driven by her determination to find a husband. A bit of an odd duck. Must have excellent comedic timing.

Ruth Kelly, R. N.: Mid 20s - early 30s. Head nurse at Chumley’s Rest. Pretty, smart and Elwood’s favorite nurse. Has a complicated love/hate relationship with Dr. Lyman Sanderson.

Lyman Sanderson, MD: Mid to late 20s/early 30s. Good-looking young doctor at Chumley’s Rest. Qualified and good at his job. Infatuated with Nurse Kelly, but often hides his feelings.

Betty Chumley: Mid - late 50s. Wife of William R. Chumley, MD. Good-natured and bustling woman. Extremely concerned with her social standing.

Duane Wilson: Late 20s - mid 30s. The “strongman” at Chumley’s Rest. Devoted member of the staff; handles the less cooperative patients. At times vulgar and crude, but extremely devoted to and protective of Dr. Chumley.

Judge Omar Gaffney: 50s and up. Elderly family friend, as well as their lawyer. Serious, plain-spoken, educated. Tends to the family’s legal matters.

Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet: Late 60s and up. Old friend of the family, with a high social standing. When she learns of Elwood’s affliction at the party, she is quick to leave the premises.

E. J. Lofgren: Mid - late 30s. Cab driver. Gives Veta some interesting details about Chumley’s Rest. Blue-collar, plain-spoken.

The roles of Elwood P. Dowd, Veta Louise Simmons and Wm. R. Chumley, MD have been cast (with Jim Parsons, Jessica Hecht and Charles Kimbrough, respectively).
