HEDDA GABLER

By Henrik Ibsen

Directed by Jennifer Tarver

Rehearsal: 7/31/12 – 8/30/12. Runs: 8/30/129/23/12

Seeking:

George Tesman

30s. Intellectual, a bit boyish and (possibly) geeky. Haphazardly good looking, and has a certain kind of charm and sex appeal. Open, clear-headed, and uncomplicated.

Hedda Gabler

30s. Beautiful, fierce and conflicted. But also must have the ability to come across as the perfect lady. Complicated and profoundly unsettled. Agile mentally and physically. Calculating. Broiling beneath the surface.

Aunt Julia

Late 50s. A caregiver. Has energy. Lives for others. Pragmatically optimistic. Loving. Warm. Also shrewd. Not without a sense of humour. Strong (knows how to dig in her heels when necessary).

Mrs. Elvsted

30s. Also beautiful, but with none of Hedda’s fierceness. Soft, vulnerable. Has a quite courage and intellect. Has clarity of purpose. A gorgeous and irresistible grad student.

Judge Brack

30s-40s. Sharp. Sexy. Possibly bisexual. Is able to maneuver to his own purposes through any situation. Smart. Agile. Wants a comfortable position of power. Likes banter and humour and engages in the risqué, but not to any great risk. Likes to be well situated. Slippery, keeps himself floating above the dirt.

Eilert Lovborg

30s. Tormented, ravenous, sexy and conflicted. Is seldom at peace. Extremely bright and creative. An inspired thinker and philosopher. Driven both intellectually and passionately. An alcoholic, has lived wildly for several years. Erratic, but sincerely trying to regain his footing in life. Still handsome but, unlike George, has lost his youthful appearance. Elegant dresser.

Berta

50s or 60s. Somewhat innocent for a woman of her age. Sheltered, and in one house until this change. As a maid she is “part of the family” but knows her place. A touch coarse.
