SEEKING:

The Danish Royal Court

• Hamlet: The Prince of Denmark, son of Gertrude and the recently deceased king of Denmark, contemplative, in love with Ophelia, believed by others to be fraught with madness
• King Claudius: recently crowned King of Denmark, Hamlet’s Uncle, married to Gertrude
• Ghost: resembling the late king, Hamlet’s father
• Queen Gertrude: Hamlet’s mother, now wife of Claudius

Courtiers and Others of the Court

• Polonius: right-hand man to Claudius, Laertes and Ophelia’s father
• Laertes: Polonius’ son, Ophelia’s brother
• Ophelia: Polonius’ daughter, believes Hamlet is “mad for her love”
• Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: Courtiers, former schoolfellows of Hamlet
• Horatio: A close friend and confidant of Hamlet
• Bernardo and Francisco: members of the King’s guard and the first people to see the Ghost
