Breakdown

Tracy Turnblad: Female, Caucasian, 5’-5’5, to play high school age. Must be heavyset. Outgoing, unstoppable, goodhearted with a vibrant, loveable, spirited personality. Loves to dance. Becomes a teen heroine. Strong pop belt singer and great mover.

Edna Turnblad – Male to play Female, Caucasian, 40’s-50’s. Tracy’s mother. A working class, devoted, loving housewife with dreams of her own. Sincere, not campy. Need a funny, grand character actor with singing ability who can convincingly play a woman. Large physique. COMEDIAN.

Wilbur Turnblad – Male, Caucasian, 40’s – 50’s. Tracy’s father. A working class inventor. Sweet, goofy, childlike personality. Adores his family. Need a funny, perhaps thin character actor. Good character singer.

Link Larkin: Male Caucasian, to play high school age. Handsome, sexy, clean-cut, goodhearted, down-to-earth. The heartthrob of The Corny Collins Show. Amber’s boyfriend at first, but he soon falls for Tracy. Strong pop singer and great mover.

Amber Von Tussle: Female Caucasian, to play high school age. The bratty, selfish princess of The Corny Collins Show. Attractive snob with a good physique. Strong pop singer and great mover.

Seaweed J. Stubbs: Male African-American, to play high school age. Cool, sexy, street smart, goodhearted. Strong, soulful tenor pop singer and great mover.

Penny Pingleton: Female Caucasian, to play high school age. Tracy’s best friend. Not too quick and slightly neurotic, but completely loyal. Kind of a nerd with a plain exterior that hides an actually attractive young girl. Strong pop singer and great mover.

Corny Collins: Male Causcasian, late 20’s – early 40’s. Handsome T.V. host. Smooth, charming and smart. Stylish and hip enough to be idolized by the “kids”. Strong pop singer and good mover.

Motormouth Maybelle: CAST

Velma Von Tussle: Female Caucasian 40’s – 50’s. Strong controlling former beauty queen, Amber’s mother, and producer of The Corny Collins Show. Upscale, attractive, prejudiced snob who always wants her daughter in the spotlight.

Little Inez: Female, African-American, 5’3 or shorter. Must be able to play early teens. Spunky, tough, street smart, outgoing, older than her years. Seaweed’s loveable little sister. Strong pop singer and good mover.

Female Authority Figure: Female Caucasian Character Actress 30s – 50’s. Plays the Matron guarding the Big Dollhouse, the Gym Teacher, and Prudy Pingleton: Penny’s overprotective and ofter close-minded mother.

Male Authority Figure: Male Caucasian Character Actor 30’s – 50’s. Heavyset. Plays Mr. Pinky, owner of Mr. Pinky’s Hefty Hideaway who gives Tracy and Edna a makeover, Principal of Patterson Park High School, and Mr. Harriman F. Spritzer, the President of Ultra Clutch.

Also seeking energetic Caucasian and African-Americans to play high school age for the roles of The Corny Collins Council (Brenda, Tammy, Lou Ann, Shelley, Brad, Fender, IQ, and Sketch) and the roles of Gilbert, Duane, Thad, Lorraine, and The Dynamites. Must be strong pop singers and great dancers.
