BREAKDOWN

Seeking:

Some roles will be understudied.

Writer 1 (U/S) only — 40’s. Writer and others. A writer on a commissioned trip to research Maria Celeste, Galileo’s daughter. She’s a little clumsy and unsure of herself as tries to figure out who she is after a difficult divorce from her husband. Through her research, she is in the process of discovering herself and her own potential.

Writer 2 — 20-30s. Daughter, Writers 1’s subconscious, and others. She is exceptionally loyal to her father and constantly worried for him, to the point that it takes a toll on her health. Daughter is clever, curious, and has so much potential that she's not allowed to fully exercise due to the constraints of society. She is a force to be reckoned with that will not be blown down or nor give up easily. BIPOC, Non-Binary, and Queer identities are encouraged to audition.

Writer 3 — 40-50s. Galileo, Friar Martine, Scientist, and others. An astronomer and father who truly loves and cares for his daughter. He believes in the pursuit of truth and knowledge even if it means standing up to authority. His high intellect is only rivaled by his extreme stubbornness. The decisions that he makes throughout the play are hard but he makes them out of love for his daughter.
