Please prepare a Shakespeare or other classical (pre-1900) monologue, 2 minutes or less.
Please bring a picture and resume, stapled back-to-back.

THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS Based on the poem by Farid Uddi Attar, Stage Version: Jean-Claude Carriere and Peter Brook. Additional Material: Andre Dahreddine. Dir: Aaron Posner. 1st reh: 9/25/12. Runs 10/23-12/9.
Play with music.
Theatre’s casting note: “All performers need to be very strong, flexible, creative actors who can also move and sing. Playing an instrument or other special physical (dance, acrobatic) or musical skills are a major plus. Performers of all ethnicities and nationalities, shapes and sizes are encouraged to audition.”
All characters may be male or female.
Dove, Falcon, First Exotic Bird, Second Exotic Bird, Peacock, Owl, Guilty Bird, Sparrow/Double Bird, Duck/Parrot, Partridge/Nightingale: Age-range for all these tracks is 20s-40s. All double as Ensemble.
The Hoopoe: 30s-50s
The Bird Ensemble: 20-30s
HENRY V by Shakespeare. Dir TBA. 1st reh: 12/27/12. Runs 1/22 - 3/10/13.
King Henry V:
22-35. Charismatic, smart leader with his wild streak now well under control. Actor must be very skilled in armed stage combat and must have an outstanding command of language.
Archbishop of Canterbury:
50-65. High-status advisor. Persuasive, sympathetic and an extraordinary statesman. Needs an excellent command of language.
Duke of Bedford:
20-30. Henry’s brother. Amiable. Actor must be skilled in armed stage combat.
Duke of Gloucester:
20-30. Henry’s brother. Amiable but naïve. Actor must be skilled in armed stage combat.
Duke of York:
25-35. Henry's cousin. Courageous, compelling. Actor must be skilled in armed stage combat.
Bishop of Ely:
40-60, Assistant to the Archbishop, he is a factotum. Actor must be able to play contrasting characters.
Earl of Cambridge, Lord Scroop and Sir Thomas Grey:
30-65. Wily, treasonous, betrayers. Actors must be able to play contrasting characters.
Duke of Exeter:
50-60. Henry’s trusted advisor. Functions both as statesman and as warrior. Consummate mediator. Strong command of language needed.
Earl of Westmoreland, Earl of Salisbury and Earl of Warwick:
50-60. Henry's advisors. They have a statesmanlike quality.
Chorus/Pistol:
55-65. Pistol: Ranting and raving coward; rascal with a comedic sense. Track requires a strong guiding presence; actor must be able to set the tone and stage of the production. Must be able to devise two strong characterizations.
Mistress Quickly:
55-60. Simple, uneducated. Married to Pistol, but has an unabashed admiration for Falstaff. Actor should have a great sense of storytelling and comic timing.
Bardolph/French Ambassador:
55-65. Bardolph: Coward and thief.
Nym:
55-65. Bardolph and Pistol’s accomplice. Cowardly thief.
Capt. Fluellen:
25-45. Intensely loyal Welshman with a good sense of humor. Also proud, opinionated, conceited and willing to argue with anyone about anything. Actor must be confident in a Welsh accent and skilled in armed combat.
Capt. Gower:
25-45. Good soldier, perceptive. Good friend to Fluellen. Actor must be skilled in armed combat.
Capt. Jamy:
25-45. Good soldier. Actor must be confident in a Scottish accent and skilled in armed combat.
Capt. MacMorris:
25-45. Actor must be confident in an Irish accent and skilled in armed combat.
The Boy:
15-25. Character may be played by a male or female. Boy is quick-witted, intelligent and tender.
Michael Williams:
25-45. Good soldier. One of the three soldiers whom King Henry, in disguise, meets the night before the Battle of Agincourt. Obedient, with a strong sense of moral obligation.
John Bates and Alexander Court:
25-45. Good soldiers.
Katharine:
20-25. Bright and determined; follows her heart. Role requires the ability to play both sophistication and naivety, and to evoke sympathy, sexuality and dignity. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Alice:
20-35. Katharine's lady-in-waiting; well-mannered companion of the young princess. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Queen Isabel:
45-60. Charming, gentle French queen. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Charles VI:
55-65. King of France. Charming, gentle, conciliatory. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
The Dauphin:
35-45. Insolent, opinionated and stubborn. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Constable of France:
35-55. Official commander-in-chief of the French forces. Capable, good soldier. Actor must be a skilled armed combatant. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Duke of Burgundy, Duke of Orleans and Duke of Bourbon:
35-55. Powerful French noblemen. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
Montjoy:
35-55. French herald, in charge of delivering the various ultimatums from the French to the English. Ability to speak French fluently a plus.
TWELFTH NIGHT by Shakespeare. Dir TBA. 1st reh: 4/2/13. Runs 4/30 - 6/23/13.
Orsino:
30+. Suave, debonair romantic, in love with love. Suffers the pain of unrequited love, but remains attractive to Viola. Actor must be able to speak verse well, play high status, and exude charisma. Ability to waltz an advantage.
Viola:
20-28. Deeply emotional yet stoic. Role requires an actor who can connect with an audience and make them feel complicit in the action. She should be able to be attractive as both a young man and a woman. Availability of a wide vocal speaking range and movement skills an advantage.
Olivia:
25+. Aristocrat in mourning. Actor must be able to make the emotional arc of the play, from the depths of bereavement to the giddy heights of falling in love. She should be able to play high status and yet remain sympathetic. Ability to waltz an advantage.
Feste:
35+. Professional fool. Actor must be able to connect with an audience with both melancholy and with searing truth. Must sing well. Movement and clowning skills an advantage.
Malvolio:
45+. Would-be puritan looking for self-advancement. Role requires an actor with strong comic skills in both language and physicality. He should be able to fain high status and yet be resented for it.
Sir Toby Belch:
50+. Family member, outstaying his welcome. Gross and cheeky at the same time. Driving force behind the plot. Actor must be play a drunk convincingly. Role requires an actor with tenacity, energy and charm.
Maria:
40+. All-knowing servant with more wit than most. Fun and frank. Her devotion to Sir Toby should be from genuine love. Knows her place, but can deal with the best of them.
Sir Andrew Aguecheek:
40+. Upper class twit, but with a heart. Status, but little intelligence. Gullible but lovable. Above average height is an advantage.
Sebastian:
20-28. Romantic lead. Identical twin of Viola. Strong presence; attractive. Ability to sword-fight an advantage.
Antonio:
35+. Sea captain. Devoted and loyal to Sebastian. Has sensitivity and masculinity. Undercover from a shady past; he risks his life for his companion. Ability to sword-fight an advantage.
Officer/Priest/Servant:
Male, 25+. Actor must be versatile and play several different characters. A master of disguise.
Fabian:
35-55. Olivia’s servant. Comic, bumbling. Slightly downtrodden style.
Valentine:
25-40. Orsino’s servant. Acts as a go-between.
Captain:
35-55. Rough and ready.
