END OF THE RAINBOW is a play with music.

Seeking (all roles are available unless otherwise specified):

Mickey Deans:

American, late 20s, early 30s. Tall, physically imposing. Self-made club manager with a dark edge, now Garland’s self-proclaimed manager. His aspirant nature locked on to the idea of a Garland revival; he’s an exploiter. Fairly handsome, but over-dominant and often abrasive. Physical, sexual man who can be blunt and argumentative. In business and the bedroom he’s ready to give as good as he gets. Has charm enough to woo a legend, but remains manipulative and ruthless at the core.

Anthony:

40–50, English or Scottish. Gay. Soft-spoken, but with a sardonic edge. Not overtly camp, but maybe a little fey. Caring and tender; tempers his gentleness with an alert wit and an inner strength. Has a firm sense of right and wrong, and is capable of intense devotion. Also a very skilled pianist.

The part requires moderate piano skills, at least sufficient to represent playing. Ideally, good enough to accompany Judy for short passages.

BBC Man / Hotel Porter / ASM:

One actor plays all three. BBC Man: English, late 30s. Middle class. Benign, fruity-voiced radio professional. Hotel Porter: Resentful old retainer. ASM: Slightly camp, slightly corpulent, slightly irritable.

Judy Garland Understudy:

Judy is in her late 40s, but is thin and looks older. Larger-than-life personality. On a downward spiral. Onstage role is cast (Tracie Bennett); seeking Understudy only.
