BREAKDOWN

ALL ROLES ARE CAST BUT SEEKING POSSIBLE FUTURE REPLACEMENTS

[SUNNY]
Male, mid 20s–30s, Person of Color. Sunny is sexy, cool and confident, hiding his insecurities behind those signature sunglasses. He has swag and charm and can be a goofball. He is self-absorbed but never intentionally an asshole. Physically in great shape, built, and muscular, not simply lanky/toned. Pop Bari-Tenor.

[MAN IN BUSINESS SUIT LEVITATING, ANGRY FACE & OTHERS]:
Male, 20s–30s, Any Ethnicity.
Man in Business Suit Levitating – a smooth-talking, swanky, corporate executive. Must be comfortable gliding around the stage on a hover board.
Angry Face – Intense, hot-headed, a simmering temper set off by the smallest annoyance. Pop/R&B Bari-Tenor.

[GUARDSMAN, WORRIED FACE & OTHERS]
Male, 20s–30s, African American or Latino. MUST BE 6’ OR TALLER AND PLUS SIZED.
Guardsman – A gatekeeper, bouncer and list-keeper. Sassy, brassy, bossy and loyal to his royal bosses. Thinks he’s as powerful and fabulous as the ones he works for.
Worried Face – Neurotic, anxious, panicked, thinks a crisis is around every corner. Mover who sings well. Baritone with a rich, soulful sound.

SYNOPSIS: Inspired by The Unicode® Standard, Emojiland tells the story of “a society that builds a wall to keep newcomers out, only to discover that the menace to its survival already lurks within” (NYT). This electric ensemble piece explores the interconnected lives of emojis whose existence inside a smartphone is defined by their coded identities, which become increasingly complicated after a software update. “Emojiland might inspire the most exciting post show conversation you’ve had in quite some time” (TheaterMania), thanks to “fun, catchy songs” (BWW) with “clever, thought-provoking lyrics” (DC Metro) and a “fine score [that] ricochets from rap to soul to power ballads to love duets” (Front Row Center). “Everything about the show is smart, hip, funny, and musically masterful,” (Times Square Chronicles), it “fizzes with rom-com effervescence,” (NYT) and in the end, delivers “a lesson for our time” (NYT). Emojiland was a 2018 Richard Rodgers Award Finalist and earned 12 award nominations and 5 wins at the 2018 New York Musical Festival.
