Breakdown
Synopsis: EINSTEIN, a full-length play, deals with the turbulent life and times of the great scientist, spanning a period of fifty years. Major scenes include the initial rejection of his relativity paper by fellow scientists, his stormy relationship with his first wife Mileva, his hostility to quantum mechanics and the Big Bang Theory, the famous Einstein vs. Bohr debate on the nature of reality, Hitler's rant against Einstein, Einstein’s arrival in America, his role in the building of the atomic bomb, his persecution by the FBI and Edgar Hoover for his pacifistic beliefs, and his stoic death by refusing necessary surgery to save his life.
SEEKING:
ALBERT EINSTEIN – Male. 30-50 years old. Versatile and charismatic actor able to play Einstein at many different ages and stages of his life. Physical presence is a must but there is no need to have resemblance to Einstein. Must be able to express scientific ideas fluently and effortlessly. LEAD.
NEILS BOHR – Male. 30-40 years old. Medium build. Strong actor with excellent stage presence. Must be able to express scientific ideas fluently and effortlessly. LEAD.
Rehearsals/Performances:
Rehearsals: Begin around July 2, 2013. Mostly in the evenings and weekends to suit working actors.
Rehearsal Site: Either at the Chain Theatre located near MoMA PS1, or at St. Clement’s Theater at 46th Street and 9th Avenue.
Performances: 16 performances in the first four weeks of August 2013, tentatively scheduled as 4 performances each week, Thursday through Sunday, with matinee on Sunday.
Venue: The Theatre At St. Clements, 46th Street and 9th Avenue.
