Breakdown

Stella Gordon (75-85) – The no-nonsense octogenarian matriarch of the Gordon family. Though dementia dulls her memory, Stella is opinionated and arbitrarily willful.

Lucille (52-62) – Stella’s dutiful daughter, a widow, who lives on the estate to help care for it and her mother.

Mary Jo (50-60) – Stella’s relentlessly calculating daughter, down from Houston to get her share.

Son (35-45) – Lucille’s son, Pauline’s fiancé. He manages the Gordon estate and Stella’s finances with reason and integrity.

Mildred (45-55) – a patient, but sharp-tongued cook who works at the Gordon estate. African American.

Doug (80-95) – old housekeeper who has worked at the Gordon estate his entire life. Proud, though physically weak and mentally slipping. African American.

Lewis Gordon (54-64) – Stella’s son, an alcoholic gambler. Sensitive despite his dissolute ways.

Pauline (30-40) – Son’s fiancée, a high school English teacher. Earnest and somewhat more intellectual and “modern” than the Gordons.

Cathleen (20-30) – A young, emotional employee who attends junior college and is striving for a better life. African American.

Sissie (20-25) – Mary Jo’s self-absorbed daughter.

Emily (20-25) – Mary Jo’s materialistic daughter.

Bob (50-60) – Mary Jo’s scheming husband, an out-of-work Houston realtor.

Irene Ratliff (16-18) – Lewis’ girlfriend. A local high school girl who works at a burger joint.
