2 short (1 min) contrasting CONTEMPORARY monologues or 1 (2min) monologue; preferably from a published play (NO original compositions, NO classical monologues)

CAL – Male, 30s-50s. Does whatever his brother, Wes, says. He was abused by his father as a child. Has night terrors. He is resentful of his youngest brother, Gary Allen.
WES – Male, 30s-50s. He is the oldest of the brothers, and the mastermind behind his and Cal’s violence. Also abused by their father.
GARY ALLEN – Male, 30s-40s. The Sheriff, and the youngest brother. He appears friendly and kind, but is a little too proud of how mature he is. Suffered no abuse from their father as a child, and has prospered more in life than the other two.
“A TOUGH CASE”
CURTIN – Male, 30s-40s. Classic fast-talking, film-noir private investigator. Isn’t always clear with what he says. Always smarter than his partners, yet insists on having a partner. Has romantic feelings towards Lindy.
BAINES – Male, 30s-40s. Well-meaning guy who partners with Curtin to be a P.I. Moronic, to the point where he frequently puts himself in danger and gets injured. Often misunderstands Curtin, but does his best to be a good PI.
THREADGILL – Male, 40s-50s. Scrap metal business owner who does not trust his partner, Brendan Finn. He turns to Curtin for help so he can learn whether or not Finn is committing fraud.
LINDY – Female, 20s-30s. Curtin’s assistant, does an excellent job as the secretary. Is having a love affair with Curtin. Calls everything as she sees it.
LUANNE – Female, 30s to 40s. Beautiful and charming club singer who is “paid to complain”. Knows a little about the investigation Curtin is looking into.
JOHNNY BRANCO – Male, 30s-50s. Owner of a nightclub, which is also a front for gambling. Is open to telling Curtin what he needs to know about the investigation. Calls it like it is to Curtin; asks him why his partners are always morons. Very good businessman.
“AT THE GAZEBO”
CARTER – Male, Late 20s. Troubled wanderer, can’t decide if it is better to be away from home or at home, or what home even means, or who he loves. Wants to win Dorothy’s attention.
DOROTHY – Female, early 20s. Attractive woman, 5 years younger than Carter. Has no problem speaking her mind, when appropriate. Abides by tradition. Autonomous, happy to take the world at face value. Used to have feelings for Carter.
GADSDEN – Male, 40s-60s, African-American. Servant to Carter. Spies on Dorothy for Carter, and gets paid for it. Kind towards Carter.
CABBIE – Male, 40s. Perpetually disappointed. Trying to move up the ladder financially. Isn’t intelligent enough or wealthy enough to succeed. Blames his wife for this.
WIFE – Female, 40s. Overworked and overtired. Feels like she married an idiot. Definitely smarter than her husband.
JOEY FALCONE – Male, 40s. Unintelligent in the way he speaks. Thinks he is great because he’s honest, but is brutally selfish.
STEVE TUDIK – Male 40s, Slightly more wealthy and definitely smarter than the cabbie. Moving forward in life, as he has a plan to buy himself a taxi.
LOU – Male, 40s-50s. Movie producer. Pushy/forceful to get his way. Is a man with big ideas. Sleazy. Has Writer living in his garage, so that he can hang out with young women at the writer’s parties.
EXECUTIVE (JOHN) – Male, 50s. Executive producer for the film company. Calls things as he sees them, and is successful at his job.
JERRY – Male, 60s-70s. Movie producer. A loving Grandfather. He likes his job, and has been doing it for a long time.
WRITER (BRETT AUGENBLICK) – Male, 20s. Film school kid with crazy ideas. Lives in Lou’s garage.

Danny M2 – Male, 30-39. A dreamer; uncomfortable in groups. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
Dave – Male, 35-45. Ambitious, insecure; Terry’s other sidekick. Ethnicity: White/European Descent
Adam – Male, 30-39. A lover of Hindu mythology; great at his job; gets chronic migraines. Ethnicity: Black/African Descent
Eleanor – Female, 40-49. Odd but friendly; uncomfortable in groups. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities.
Brian – 20-29. The note taker; devoted; suppresses all emotion. Ethnicity: White/European Descent
Sarah – Female, 20-29. Terry’s assistant; extremely cheery; has hidden depths. Ethnicity: White/European Descent
Josh – Male, 35-45. Very excited to work with Terry; worried about getting fired. Ethnicity: All Ethnicities.
