ROAD SHOW
MUSIC & LYRICS BY STEPHEN SONDHEIM
BOOK BY JOHN WEIDMAN
DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER: WILL DAVIS
MUSIC DIRECTOR: CHRIS FENWICK
1st Rehearsal: July 12, 2019
Opening: July 24, 2019
Closing: July 27, 2019

Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s musical ROAD SHOW is the third and final presentation of the 2019 Off-Center season. It tells the story of Addison Mizner and his brother Wilson Mizner's adventures across America from the beginning of the 20th century during the Klondike gold rush to the Florida real estate boom of the 1920s.

We are actively considering identifiable teams (either professional or familial) of either or both genders. We are looking for two individuals with a lot of chemistry, big hearts, big salesman - but also able to turn inward and show us the tragic flaws that will ultimately take them down.

The play is called Road Show for many reasons- and a few of them relate to the personalities of these brothers. They habitually pack up and leave and don't get attached. Their ambitions take them to far flung parts of the world, but their sense of self worth could fit in a small trunk.

SEEKING

[ADDISON MIZNER] 30s-40s, Male: Responsible and level headed – for years, consigned to live in the shadows of his brother’s schemes. Sensitive, easily swayed. Deeply attached to his mother. A visionary, and gifted architect whose surviving work is on the National Historic Registry and inspired the landscape of South Florida. Vocal Range: F3 – G5.

[WILSON MIZNER] late 30’s - 50’s. A schemer, swindler, raconteur and playwright. Charming, handsome, charismatic. An adventurer. Wilson’s good time is always had at the expense of others and particularly the ones he loves. Dapper. Vocal Range: F3 – A5

[HOLLIS BESSEMER] 20’s - 30’s. A disillusioned young man. Handsome, waspy, wealthy and entitled, looking for validation from his parents but finds it with Addison. Lyrical bari-tenor. B3-G5

[MAMA MIZNER] 60’s - 70’s. Any ethnicity. Ambitious, game and a little reckless. Besotted with Wilson and his charm, she takes care the care and love Addison provides for granted. She’s drunk the kool-aid. Strong, clear contralto. G3-E5

[PAPA MIZNER] Male. 60’s - 70’s. Any ethnicity. The patriarch neither son can live up to. Upright, expansive. Inspirational, a dream weaver. Baritone. A3-E5
