Seeking
East West Players, the longest running theater of color in the US is seeking performers for CHINGLISH, by DAVID HENRY HWANG

Preparation
Please prepare 1 contemporary monologue, dramatic with comedic elements. (Mandarin speakers, please be prepared to demonstrate proficiency or if possible prepare additional monologue in Mandarin.)

Other Dates
Rehearsals begin August 10, 2015.
Technical Rehearsals begin September 3-9, 2015.
Previews begin September 10
Opening Wednesday September 16
Four week run (5 performances a week) through October 11, 2015

Breakdown

An American businessman who’s desperately looking to score a lucrative contract for his family’s firm travels to China only to learn how much he doesn’t understand: his translators are unreliable, his consultant may be a fraud, and he is captivated by Xi, the beautiful, seemingly supportive government official who talks the talk – but what is she saying, anyway? An uproarious comedy from one of East West Player's favorite playwrights.

DANIEL CAVANAUGH: a businessman, Caucasian, American, Male 40’s.
PETER TIMMS: a consultant, Caucasian, British, Male 40’s. Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
XI YAN: Vice Minister of Culture, Chinese, Female, 40’s. Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
MISS QIAN: a translator, Chinese, Female. (Also plays PROSECUTOR LI: female, 30s.) Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
ZHAO: a translator, Chinese, Female, any age. Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
CAI GUOLIANG: the Cultural Minister, Chinese, Male, 50’s. Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
BING: Cai’s nephew, a translator, Chinese Male, 20’s. (Also plays JUDGE XU GEMING: Xi’s husband, 40-50.) Must speak FLUENT MANDARIN.
