Dr. Givings:
35-45. Intellectually curious, yet stifled. Loves his wife and excited about the possibilities of electricity and medicine.
Mr. Daldry:
35-55. A steadfast man. Would like his wife to have more pep, more verve. Does not see that he himself may be partly to blame for her malaise.

40's/50s - a first-generation immigrant novelist, perhaps from the Middle East/North Africa/South Asia - a member of the Muslim diaspora. Brilliant and intimidating.
NAJA
40's/50s - his wife. Also a first-generation immigrant. Currently a dance instructor - soulful, intelligent, warm, long suffering.
PETER OSMAN
40's/50s - a business owner. A more recent immigrant to the U.S. Gregarious, charming, generous.

40's/50s - his wife, conservative, traditional, reserved
