BREAKDOWN

Noises Off

LLOYD DALLAS: Male, any ethnicity, late 30’s-late 40’s. The director of a play-within-the-play, called Nothing On. Temperamental. Part of a love triangle involving Poppy and Brooke.

DOTTY OTLEY: Female, any ethnicity, 50’s-60’s. A late-middle-aged actress. Forgetful. Has a romantic interest in Garry, and provokes him by showing interest in Freddy.

GARRY LEJEUNE: Male, any ethnicity, mid 30’s-late 40’s. A stuttering actor, easily fired up. Has a romantic interest in Dotty, and is driven by jealousy to attack Freddy repeatedly. His speech impediment disappears onstage. Constantly stutters and ends sentences with you know...

Detroit ’67

CHELLE (MICHELLE): Black woman, late 30’s. Chelle is strong, steadfast, firm, and not easily impressed. A widow, mother, and sister; she is a survivor. A loving heart beneath her pride, nothing gets past her and she makes sure of it. She has two feet solidly on the ground with one eye on reality and the other on creating a future for her family.

SLY (SYLVESTER): Black man, late 30’s. Sly is sweet-talking and fiercely loyal. He is an honest hustler and numbers man. He is Lank’s best friend. He has a large heart, a soft spot for Chelle, and uses comedy as a shield.

FRIAR LAURENCE: Man or Woman, any ethnicity, late 30’s-70’s. A trusted and respected person of faith. Friend and advisor to Romeo.

CAPULET: Man, any ethnicity, 40’s-60’s. Father of Juliet. Demanding and authoritarian, though not without love for his daughter.
