CLUE

Written by Sandy Rustin
Additional Material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price
Directed by Nancy Carlin
OCT 28 – NOV 20, 2022
Rehearsals begin Sept 26th, 2022

A little party never killed no Boddy. Murder and blackmail are back on the menu when six mysterious guests assemble for a dinner party at Boddy Manor. Was it Mrs. Peacock in the study with the knife? Or Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench? Based on the cult 1985 Paramount movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro game, this farce-meets-murder-mystery is bloody good fun.

WADSWORTH (male presenting 30-40) A traditional British butler in every sense: uptight, formal and “by the book.” He is the driving force in the play.

MISS. SCARLET (female presenting, 30-40) A dry, sardonic D.C. Madam, more interested in secrets than sex.

MRS. PEACOCK (female presenting, 40-60) The wealthy wife of a Senator. A bit batty, neurotic, and quick to hysteria.

MRS. WHITE (female presenting, 30-40) A pale, morbid, and tragic woman. Mrs. White may or may not be the murderer of her five ex-husbands.

COLONEL MUSTARD (male presenting, 40-60) A puffy, pompous, dense, blow-hard of a military man.

PROFESSOR PLUM (male presenting, 30-40) An arrogant, academic, easily impressed by himself.

MR. GREEN (male presenting, 30-40) A timid, yet officious, rule follower. He’s awfully anxious.

YVETTE (female presenting, 20-30) A loyal French Maid.

ENSEMBLE 1 (female presenting, 20-30) plays the following roles: THE COOK: a gruff woman with a sinister presence. (Alive and Dead.), SINGING TELEGRAM GIRL: a tap dancer with a heart of gold. (Alive and Dead.), AUXILIARY SCARLET: the back of Miss Scarlet during a scene of theatrical trickery.

ENSEMBLE 2 (male presenting 30-40) Plays the following roles: MR. BODDY: a slick, Frank Sinatra, film noir-esque type fella. (Alive and Dead.), THE MOTORIST: a benign gentleman who rings the wrong doorbell. (Alive and Dead.), and CHIEF OF POLICE: a cop who helps to save the day.

ENSEMBLE 3 (male presenting 30-40) Plays the following roles: THE “BROKEN DOWN CAR” COP: a regular Joe. (Alive and Dead.), BACKUP COP: backup for the chief., AUXILIARY MUSTARD: the back of Colonel Mustard during a scene of theatrical trickery.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL
by Charles Dickens
Directed by Scott Denison
Choreographed by Jennifer Perry
Musical Directed by Michael Patrick Wiles
DEC 8–22, 2022
Rehearsals begin Nov 19, 2022

Brimming with music and dance, love and laughter, and spectacular special effects, it’s no wonder the critics have called it “THE Christmas Carol to see in the Bay Area.” Join the thousands who make this theatrical event a part of their annual holiday traditions.

Seeking: Ensemble Roles

RED BIKE
by Caridad Svich
Directed by: Markus Potter
FEB 3–25, 2023
Rehearsals begin Jan 2, 2023

Remember when you were eleven years old and you had a bike, one that made you dream about a world bigger than the one in which you live? This is that memory. Except it is now. Red Bike explores the possibilities the world has to offer from the eyes of an 11-year-old’s adventures on their Red Bike!

A: an 11-year-old child.

M: an 11-year-old child.

Seeking adult actors (18+) of any gender who are inventive physical actors. Casting, however, must be inclusive and reflective of the world. The speaker in the text is a child of eleven years of age and simultaneously their adult self. No attempt should be made to “appear” to be a child in effect or clothing.

SWEAT
by Lynn Nottage
Directed by Elizabeth Carter
MAR 24 – APR 16, 2023
Rehearsals begin Feb 20, 2023

It’s the year 2000 in Reading, Pennsylvania and a group of friends go to work at the steel mill and then decompress at the bar like they’ve been doing for over 20 years. But, unbeknownst to them, their lives are about to be uprooted. Their steel mill, Olstead’s, is making some changes and the blood, sweat and tears, not to mention the generations of loyalty these workers have shown, don’t seem to amount to much. These middle class, unionized, steelworkers have made plans to save money, go on vacations and then retire with a nice, healthy pension, but when rumors start flying that the company is considering layoffs, and flyers are hung to recruit non-union Latino workers for less money, the war between community and capitalism begins, and tensions start destroying not only jobs, but also relationships. This poignant play takes a look at the de-industrial revolution through the lens of a history play, but also delves into the issues of today: the economy, immigration, race-relations in America, and politics. Lynn Nottage’s Sweat gives us characters filled with the good and the bad and asks us to reflect on our own views and the views of others. Nottage never tells us who’s right or who’s wrong, but always shows us who’s human.

IN THE HEIGHTS
by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes
Dir: TBD
Choreographer: TBD
Musical Director: TBD
May 26 - June 24, 2023
Rehearsals begin on or around April 16, 2023

Over the course of the Tony award-winning musical, In the Heights, we encounter the many residents of Washington Heights -- a New York City neighborhood on the brink of change. Usnavi, a first-generation Dominican-American corner bodega owner, and his friends and family are dealing with the pressures of rising rents and closing neighborhood businesses. As one family struggles to figure out how to pay for an Ivy League tuition for their brilliant and hard-working daughter, a young woman is trying to put a down payment on a new apartment, and Usnavi himself is trying to get back to the Dominican Republic to reconnect with his roots after the death of his parents. In Washington Heights, community is everything, and we see how each of these individuals struggles to survive and how these same individuals come together as a community to mourn their losses and rejoice in their triumphs. Over the course of the show, we see the hard-working residents of Washington Heights grapple with love and lust, identity and racism, all while the prospect of a winning lottery ticket hangs in the air, potentially changing the livelihoods of the people and the community forever. This revolutionary new musical combines Latin rhythms and dance with hip-hop lyrics to tell a captivating story about what it means to chase your dreams as you cling to your roots, and to celebrate the community from which you grew.

USNAVI DE LA VEGA: (Baritenor, Latino): 24-year-old owner of De La Vega's Bodega, his parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic and have since passed away. He lives with Abuela Claudia (Grandmother Claudia), who isn't actually his grandmother but they are as close as family. Usnavi is in love with Vanessa and remains the eyes and ears of his Washington Heights neighborhood.

NINA ROSARIO: (Mezzo-Soprano, Strong Belt/Mix, Latina) 19-year-old Nina has just finished her freshmen year at Stanford University. She is the daughter of Kevin and Camilia Rosario. Nina is the only member of her family and friends who made it to college. She is best friends with Vanessa and a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who know her; she represents the opportunity outside of the heights. Strong belt/ mix to an E. An excellent mover.

KEVIN ROSARIO: (Baritenor, Latino) In his forties and owner of Rosario Car and Limousine, Kevin is a husband to Camilia and father to Nina. While Kevin was born and raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he immigrated to New York City with Camilia. Kevin immediately started working to provide a better life for his newly- arrived family.

CAMILIA ROSARIO: (Alto, Latina) Also in her forties, she is the co-owner of Rosario Car and Limousine with her husband Kevin. Also from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she fell in love with Kevin at 19 and immigrated with him to New York City. She is cool-headed yet keeps a subtle but strong leash on Kevin. Her daughter Nina has just returned for the summer from her first year at Stanford. Moves well.

BENNY: (Tenor, Black/African-American) Now a 24-year-old cab driver for Rosario Car and Limousine, has in the past found himself in trouble. Kevin saw promise in Benny and helped shape him into a responsible, hard-working young man. Benny has enormous respect for Kevin and sees him as a father figure. Eventually falling in love with Nina, Benny sees a future for them by becoming a businessman. He and Usnavi are best friends. Strong singer and excellent mover.

VANESSA (Mezzo-Soprano, Strong Belt, Latina) A 19-year-old shampoo girl at Daniela's Salon, Vanessa is strong, intelligent, and grew up with Benny and Usnavi. Though Usnavi would like to be something more than Vanessa's friend, he has never made any attempt. Vanessa dreams of leaving to create her own life away from her alcoholic mother. Strong belt/mix to an E. Astrong dancer.

SONNY: (Tenor, Latino) 15 years old and Usnavi's cousin, Sonny is spending the summer working for Usnavi at the bodega. He usually hangs out on the street with his friend Graffiti Pete but avoids trouble. He is an extremely intelligent young man who strives to emulate Usnavi. Passionate to solve the social and economic problems of the city, he is someone that needs guidance or risks ending up a street punk. Strong mover.

ABUELA CLAUDIA: (Alto with Belt, Latina) In her late 60's, she raised Usnavi after his parents passed away and continues to live with him. She emigrated from Cuba when she was very young. Of all the characters, Abuela Claudia has been in the Heights the longest. She struggled to learn English, struggled to find work, and in turn has helped others who have followed in her path. She is clearly the matriarch of the neighborhood. Strong belt to a C.

DANIELA: (Alto, Latina) In her thirties or early forties, she is the owner of Daniela's Salon. Savvy to say the least, she is quick-witted, brassy, and outspoken. While she retains a motherly relationship with Vanessa, she remains the gossip queen of the neighborhood. Non-nonsense, she has built a successful business but is being forced out of the neighborhood because of rent hikes. Has a strong belt. An excellent mover.

CARLA: (Latina, vocal part TBD) In her mid-twenties to early thirties, she is a hairdresser at Daniela's Salon. Born and raised in Queens, she is a pure, sweet, innocent, and loving woman who is devoted to her family and friends though she is easily taken advantage of because of her naivety. She and Daniela are best friends. Strong belt mix. An excellent mover.

GRAFFITI PETE: (any race, a strong dancer) An 18-year-old graffiti artist and the nemesis of Usnavi, he is always hanging out on the streets, dancing to his boom box music, spraying any surface he can. Usnavi is unhappy that Sonny and Graffiti Pete are friends because Graffiti Pete epitomizes everything that Usnavi hopes that Sonny will not grow up to be.

PIRAGUA GUY: (Tenor, Latino) In his-mid thirties, he walks the hot and humid streets of Washington Heights selling piraguas (flavored ice shavings) to earn a living. He represents the rhythm of the islands in the big city. Bright, soaring tenor.

ENSEMBLE: dancers/singers
