Please prepare a brief, contemporary musical theater song or pop song, showing range. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Please bring a resume & a picture (of yourself), stapled back-to-back.

Based on the 2002 DreamWorks film of the same name.

Seeking (all roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified):

Frank Jr. Standby:

Male; seeking actor 18+ to play late teens. See description for Frank Jr., below. Off-stage position.

Frank Sr.:

Man, 50s. Frank Jr.’s father. Has-been swindler whose age is catching up with him. Loves his son dearly, and teaches him con skills. His trouble with the IRS causes his wife Paula to leave him and Frank Jr. to run away. Strong singer. Role played on film by Christopher Walken.

Roger:

Man, late 40s – 50s. Brenda’s father. Upstanding man’s man who wants the best for his wife and daughter. Stern and powerful, but reasonable and likable at the same time. Strong singer. Role played on film by Martin Sheen.

Carol:

Woman, 40s – 50s. Brenda’s mother and trophy wife to Roger. A “Good Housekeeping”-type, welcoming housewife who is obedient to her husband and loves her children. Strong singer.

The following four roles have been cast (i.e. offer accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible future replacements.

Frank Jr.:

CAST. Male character; an actor 18+ plays late teens. Young, intelligent, seductive con artist extraordinaire who can outsmart almost anyone. A man of all trades who poses as an airline pilot, doctor and attorney, cashing millions in fraudulent checks. Learns his conning ways from his father, whom he idolizes. Resents his mother for leaving his father. His parents’ separation and the desire to win back his father’s money from the IRS prompt him to run away and begin a journey of fraud. Very persuasive with women. Requires a dynamic, young leading man capable of carrying a show. Strong singer with tenor range. Role played on film by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Carl Hanratty:

CAST, Man, 40s. FBI bank fraud agent whose mission is to catch Frank Jr., but Frank Jr. is always one step ahead of him. Humorless, dour, lonely, relentless, compassionate. His cat-and-mouse game with Frank Jr. becomes a sort of father/son relationship. Strong singer. Role played on film by Tom Hanks.

Brenda:

CAST. Woman, 20s. Southern belle nurse with a heart of gold. Works with and falls in love with Frank Jr. at a hospital while Frank is posing as a doctor. Sweet, innocent, gullible, but has a sexiness. Frank Jr. reveals the truth about himself to her, and they devise a plan to escape together, but he leaves her when he realizes she has set him up to be caught. Strong singer. Role played on film by Amy Adams.

Paula:

Update, posted 10.18.10: Role is now CAST. Woman, late 40s – 50s. Frank Sr.’s wife and Frank Jr.’s mother. Born in France. Disapproves of her husband and son’s schemes. After her husband’s IRS trouble, she leaves him for another man. Won’t tolerate a husband unable to keep her in the style she prefers. Strong singer.
