Seeking:

Halie:

(Pronounced like “valley”) Mid-60s. Dodge’s wife. Appears to be religious. Might be having an affair with Father Dewis. Her middle son, Ansel, died as a young man. She romanticizes his memory. At one point, she confuses the identity of her son, Tilden, with her grandson, Vince. Spends much of her time in the upstairs part of the house. Seems to have a social life outside of the household. In deep denial of the family secret, at times she seems unconscious that it even exists.

Tilden:

Dodge and Halie’s oldest son. Late 40s. All-American halfback in high school. Just returned to Dodge and Halie’s house from New Mexico after “twenty-some” years away. Others might perceive him as slow-witted, but he could just be quiet. “Something about him is profoundly burned out and displaced.” There is discussion about Tilden getting into trouble in New Mexico, possibly spending time in jail. Vince is his son.

Bradley:

Dodge and Halie’s youngest son. Early 40s. His left leg was amputated above the knee in a chain-saw accident. Wears a wooden leg. “Moves with an exaggerated, almost mechanical limp.” His arms and shoulders are powerful and muscular from relying on his upper torso. Intimidating presence. Extremely physical role.

Father Dewis:

Protestant minister. Distinguished, gray-haired. 60s. May be having an affair with Halie. Has been drinking upon arrival to Dodge and Halie’s house. Supports Halie in her bid to have a statue erected in honor of her son, Ansel. Finds himself caught in the middle of family strife and the revelation of a dark family secret. Confesses to be “quite out of my depth” in the situation.

The following role is CAST:

Dodge: CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. Late 70S. Married to Halie. Lives on a farm in Illinois that has been in Dodge’s family for 57 years. Tilden is his oldest son, Bradley, his youngest. Lost his middle son, Ansel, when Ansel was a young man. Very thin, sickly looking. Drinks whiskey heavily. Has a bad cough. Has difficulty moving about – spends most of his time on the couch in front of the T.V. Mentally sharp and sharp-tongued. Mysteriously, doesn’t seem to recognize his grandson, Vince.
