Based on Mark Twain’s classic novel “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, Big River features music in the blue grass and country styles, in keeping with the setting of the novel. The reckless and adventure-loving Huckleberry Finn, fearing for his life after a run-in with his violent father, takes off on a raft down the Mississippi River. Along the way, he meets up with a runaway slave, Jim, who is trying to find his wife and children up North. Many adventures ensue along the way, as Huck and Jim travel down the mighty Mississippi and into the American spirit.
Seeking:
Jim:
(30s-40s) African American man. Runaway slave who finds a true and deep friendship with Huck Finn. Superb singer and actor required. Requires an actor with real power and depth. Muscular, masculine. Baritone or tenor.
Huck:
(early 20s to read younger). Boyish, charismatic. Terrific “street sense”; thinks incredibly well on his feet. Searching for his own freedom from his abusive father and finds a great friend in Jim. Superb singer and actor required. High baritone or tenor.
