BREAKDOWN

Ken Ludwig’s madcap adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mystery, transforming “The Hound of the Baskervilles” into an all-out comedic theatrical adventure. Full of humor, horror, and plenty of stage magic, five actors play nearly 40 roles in this caper that is equal parts comedy and adventure. Baskerville’s fast-moving, pulse-pounding and murderously funny ride plays out in grand scale, proving just how far from elementary the truth can be. The world’s favorite detective returns in the most famous case of his career; the gloomy and foreboding world of fog, quicksand, moors and monsters that combine to create a dizzying web of clues. Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion Dr. Watson must unravel them quickly if they hope to save the latest heir to the Baskerville fortune from a centuries-old curse.

NOTE:

We are assembling an ethnically diverse ensemble of actors who are versatile, energetic, fun, and have the stamina necessary to play roles that seamlessly shift from one to another.

Actors with experience with classical work, as well as familiarity with plays in the styles of The 39 Steps, Shipwrecked!, and/or Peter and the Starcatcher are an ideal fit. The play requires that the actors can embody these vivid characters while delivering rich language with high energy and without parody. Seeking actors who will commit to the heightened style without caricaturing.

For auditions, actors should adopt the appropriate dialects for the roles they are reading for. (For example: for the role of Sir Henry, Baskerville, a Texan accent would be appropriate. For British characters, unless noted otherwise, please employ a Standard British accent.)

We are seeking actors who will commit to both productions of this show.
