Equity Performer Auditions / Acting and Singing

Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Barter Stage II, across the street from the

and Barter Theatre on Main Street, Abingdon, VA

Monday, December 12, 2011 Exit 17 on Interstate 81.

10 AM — 12:30 PM acting and singing auditions, morning session each day

2 PM — 4:30 PM acting and singing auditions, afternoon session each day

Prepare either 1 or 2 contrasting monologues, no more than 1 ½ minutes each. If you are doing 2, then make sure they contrast in some way.

If you sing, in addition to a monologue, prepare one verse and one chorus of a song (or 16 bars of a song). Have a contrasting piece ready if asked. Bring sheet music in correct key (no lead sheets or vocal only music); accompanist provided but will not transpose. No recorded accompaniment or a cappella singing.

Please bring THREE (3) copies of your picture and resume.

Important General Audition NOTE: While EMCs and adult non-Equity actors may be seen as time permits at these auditions, the theatre will NOT see any non-Equity actors under the age of 18 at these auditions. Only AEA performers under the age of 18 will be able to attend these auditions. Separate auditions may be held at a later date for performers under 18 years of age. For all college students in the Tri-Cities area – unless you have ADVANCED DANCE EXPERIENCE, we ask that you wait for our Local College auditions in late January/early February. Please check our website after December 1, 2011 for more details.

Theatre Statement: “Anyone interested in the Resident Company, Player Company, or any musical, is encouraged to attend the movement/dance auditions, even if you do not consider yourself to be a dancer.”

AEA Dancing and Movement Auditions will take place on:

Sunday 12/11 and Monday 12/12, 12:15 PM – 2 PM and 4:15 PM – 6:30 PM each day. Auditions at the Barter Production Building – Large Hall. (see separate notice for details)

Non-Equity Barter “Player” interviews will be held 6:30pm to 9:30pm each day.


Seeking: Year-round, Resident Company Members: Most members of our resident company sing and move, at least at a minimal level, but it is not a requirement; For these auditions, we highly encourage you to sing and attend the movement auditions in addition to acting if you are interested in becoming a member of the resident company. Also seeking Local and Non-Local Jobbers for roles for a single show or a single repertory, and actors for six readings and staged productions during the Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights.

Rehearsals for most plays begin approximately six – eight weeks before they open. Most actors will participate in two productions during the same repertory.

Abingdon is approximately six hours from Washington, D.C. and ten hours from NYC by auto. The nearest airport is Tri-Cities which is a forty five minute drive from Abingdon.
