SEREBRYAKOV, a retired professor, 50-70 years old; was once a celebrated academic and now is financially insolvent and in physical pain.
YELENA – His wife, 27 years old. Beautiful, now unhappy in her marriage and no longer in love with her husband. She’s bursting with life underneath her conventional demeanor.
SONYA – Serebryakov’s daughter by his first wife, 22 years old. Compassionate, honest, generous, hopeful and a hard worker. In love with Astrov. “Plain”.
ASTROV – A country doctor and forester. Age 30’s – 40’s. Plants trees. Looking for a better future for mankind. Attracted to Yelena.

POPE JOAN – Age – 20s. Woman disguised as a man is thought to have been Pope from 354-355.
PATIENT GRISELDA – Age – 20s. Is the obedient wife who’s story is told by Chaucer in “The Clerks Tale”.

KIT - Bright, 12 year old friend of Joyce's simple daughter, 16 year old Angie. ROLE CAST
ISABELL/JOYCE – Isabella is a Victorian adventurous and Joyce is a working class English mom. ROLE CAST
DULL GRET/ANGIE – Dull Gret is a subject of Bruegel painting. Leads a group of women charging through hell fighting the devils. Angie is a simple 16 year old daughter of Joyce. ROLE CAST
