LOUISE - Decisive, practical and impatient steward of family home, 40's

FATHER - Accomplished man of business, tolerant and understanding, and somewhat weary pater familias - 60'

EBEN - Soulful and bemused brother in a family that lives under the weight of a literary legacy - 30's

ELSA - Black sheep of a family, defiant and contrite both for having shamed her conservative relatives - 30

AGATHA - Anxious and protective defender of family secrets, living in her own world 60's
