SEEKING:

Josh Weinstein:

Around 30. Male. Our narrator. An investigative journalist with great commercial and critical success. His work is well-crafted but cold. He is charming yet emotionally closed-off. Tenor, pop/rock sound (range: B3 to Bb4; belts an A4). PRINCIPAL.

Kali Blanche:

Around 30. Female. Our composer. A manic musician with a cult following and critical respect. She draws no lines between herself and her raw but brilliant work. Kali also suffers, both physically and psychologically, from a genetic liver disease (Wilson’s Disease) inherited from her mother. Mezzo belt, pop/rock/soul sound (range: E3 to F5; strong straight-tone belt in the upper register around D5) PRINCIPAL. PIANO ABILITY A MAJOR PLUS.

Simone Blanche:

Mid or late 20s. Female. Our designer. A painter and Kali’s beautiful younger sister. Joyful and flighty, she never fully concentrates or commits to her art. Subconsciously, however, she carries the weight of her unraveling family. Mezzo/Sop belt, pop/rock/soul sound (range: E3 to F5; comfortable belt or strong mix in the C5 to Eb5 range) PRINCIPAL.

Mother:

Mid 50s. Simone and Kali’s mother, slowly dying of liver failure. Despite the progression of her disease, she drinks habitually. Mezzo, slightly more classical musical theater sound (range: E3 to C5) PRINCIPAL

Franklin:

Around 30, Josh’s editor; brash and at times over the top, he still acts in what he believes to be Josh’s best interests. Singing a plus, but not crucial.
