Theatre Aspen Receives State Grant from Colorado Creative Industries

By:

Theatre Aspen announced today that the organization has received a grant of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) from the Colorado Creative Industries, a state agency. This grant was awarded through CCI's Colorado Creates Program and will support the theatre's general operations. State grants are awarded through a competitive process, and the grant signifies that Theatre Aspen provides a high level of quality in its programs, community service and administrative ability.

This is the second year Theatre Aspen has received the CCI grant. Last year, Colorado Senator Mark Udall said, "The arts help communities across Colorado attract visitors and new residents who, in turn, patronize local businesses." "These funds, in part from the National Endowment for the Arts, will boost local economies throughout Pitkin County and the Roaring Fork Valley."

The award-winning, professional theatre produces a summer repertory season of plays, musicals and family fare in the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park. Theatre Aspen, entering its 33rd year of operation, also offers a robust year-round theatre education program and has recently launched the Aspen Theatre Festival to present new works, bringing in established and emerging writers for residencies, workshops and presentations for the public.

Theatre Aspen School offers educational theatre and theatrical productions for students between the ages of five and eighteen. Scholarships are available so that no student is turned away for financial need. In addition, Theatre Aspen established a professional apprentice-training program, now entering its fourth year. The Theatre Aspen Apprentice Program was created with the generous supported of the Jessica and John Fullerton Family Foundation.

Productions in the Hurst Theatre enjoy tremendous community support, underwritten by season sponsor ANB Bank, with the generous support of Franklin and Barbara Carson, Jessica and John Fullerton, Liz Armstrong, Nancy Wall and Chuck Wall, Darlynn and Tom Fellman, Jim and Brenda Grusecki, Hays Private Client, Soledad and Bob Hurst, Brett Bossung, The Aspen Club & Spa, Shane Aspen Real Estate, Aspen, Tito's Handmade Vodka and Les Dames d'Aspen.

Media sponsors include The Aspen Times, Aspen Daily News, Sopris Sun, Aspen Public Radio, KSPN/KNFO, Aspen Peak, Aspen Magazine and Aspen Sojourner.
