The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and Regis University are partnering with the Tattered Cover Book Store to present the Colorado Book and Arts Festival, a one-day literary arts festival celebrating books, arts and music for the whole family. The Center will be filled with award-winning authors, panel discussions, an onsite pop-up Tattered Cover Book Store, children's area, artists booths and musical performances.

The 2019 Festival features a special Keynote Conversation with Peng Shepherd, author of The Book of M. The dystopian themes of Shepherd's novel echoes the apocalyptic theme of this year's NEA Big Read selection, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. This festival is the kickoff event for the NEA Big Read program which will feature a series of events through mid-April.

An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of the world, our communities and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The Arvada Center, being the only recipient of this grant in Colorado, selected Station Eleven because it focuses on how the arts endured post-apocalypse and continued to provide meaning and comfort to those who survived. At the same time, the multi-faceted nature of the novel- from societal collapse and dystopia to comic books and music- will appeal to a wide-demographic, making it a good choice for bringing a diverse community together to discuss modern-day themes and anxieties.
