Photo Flash: First Look at Breckenridge Backstage Theatre's FORBIDDEN BROADWAY'S GREATEST HITS
The Breckenridge Backstage Theatre continues its 44th season with Forbidden Broadway'S GREATEST HITS, a hilarious, loving, and endlessly entertaining tribute to many of Broadway's greatest shows and hitmakers.
In this best-of compilation from the long-running Off-Broadway hit musical revue, Broadway's best meet Broadway's greatest satirist. Audiences will spend an uproarious evening laughing out loud as a gifted cast parodies selections from ANNIE, WICKED, LES MISERABLES, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and CATS, and sends-up Broadway legends such as Carol Channing, Ethel Merman, Chita Rivera, and Liza Minnelli. Gerard Allesandrini (SPAMILTON) created and wrote the evening, and his delightfully stinging, clever lyrics are given a winning presentation from a tight ensemble who are not only skilled comedians who have studied their subjects and mimic them with elan, but are also in on the joke.
Returning to the BBT stage is Lindsey Falduto (LOVE/PERFECT/CHANGE) who presents her "Oz-some" take on Idina Menzel's nasally screaming-singing in the WICKED parody, "Defying Subtlety," and Rob Riney (25TH PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE) who skewers the musical CATS and HAIRSPRAY with two outlandish impersonations of every actor who ever had to don cat ears and the great and grating, Harvey Fierstein. New to the BBT stage is Shane Delavan, great as a miked-to-death Phantom and as a straining-for-the-high-notes Jean Valjean in LES MIS, and Liz Larsen, a riot as Carol Channing, aping that unmistakable speech and working that sinkhole of a mouth, in a merciless deflating of HELLO DOLLY. Kelly VanOosbree (BBT's HAIRSPRAY) is the director/choreographer who perfectly lands the over-the-top style. Eric Weinstein is the music director and also accompanies the evening. Sean Mallary (TOXIC AVENGER) is the lighting designer. Chris Gavin (SCHOOL OF ROCK) is the sound designer. BBT Artistic Director, Christopher Willard, is producing.
