Oculus Theater Presents DANCING WITH DEMONS, Now thru 9/29

Oculus Theater presents Dancing with Demons: A Comedy of Sorts. After receiving rave reviews at the Seattle Fringe Festival and Fresno's Rogue Festival, Shana Cordon comes home to the Boulder International Fringe Festival, today, September 18-29, 2013.

In this one-woman, multi-character show, heroes and villains, innocents and vixens battle to tell their own story. With exquisite physical theater, original music, and witty humor, this contemporary fairytale will take you on a haunting, hilarious, dark and delicious adventure. *Adult themes, language*

Shana Cordon: PERFORMER, WRITER, PRODUCER. Shana is a performer, director, playwright and educator. She has extensive experience in performance, bridging the world of classical text-based theater, physical theater, and dance. She earned an MFA in Contemporary Theater from Naropa University, and she has studied at Seattle's Freehold Theater Studio/Lab, The American Conservatory Theater, and with such illustrious teachers as Giovanni Fusetti, Moises Kauffman and Tectonic Theater Project, Meridith Monk, and the Siti Company.

Local acting credits include Lili in Why We Have a Body (Square Product Theater), Athena in The Odyssey (Now or Never Theater), and Anita in Wrong Turn at Lungfish (Theater 13), for which she was nominated Best Actress by the Boulder Daily Camera for her "vulnerability" and "overall sassy charm." As a director and playwright, Shana has created numerous shows, including Lull and A Brief History of Intercourse, which was highlighted by Denver's Westword, The Denver Post and Boulder Daily Camera as a must-see in the 2008 Boulder International Fringe Festival. In 2007, she co-directed GEmma Wilcox's award-winning show Shadows in Bloom.

Shana teaches voice for actors at Red Rocks Community College and physical theater at the Boulder Ballet School. She is Boulder Ballet's Marketing Director and its Director of Outreach, through which she has taught theater and movement to thousands of students throughout Colorado. CLAIRE PATTON: DIRECTOR, DRAMATURGE Claire Patton is a director, teacher, and performer of Lecoq-based physical theatre. She graduated from Kiklos International School of Theatre Creation in Padua Italy, where she studied under Giovanni Fusetti. She also completed his course in the pedagogy of movement theatre in 2009. Patton is the Artistic Director of Quake Theater. She has created and directed numerous original productions in Boulder, including the mask comedy Woe to the Conquered, which premiered at the Boulder Fringe in 2010 and won the festival's Encore! award. Patton has served as a guest artist at the University of Colorado Department of Theatre and Dance, specializing in Commedia dell'Arte, and has collaborated as a movement coach on three of their productions. This year Claire premiered a physical duet, The Awkward Art of Flying, created and performed with Lucia Rich. The production will tour the US and Canada in 2014. This year at the Boulder Fringe, Claire has also directed Bradley Spann's Me & My Monkey and assisted with TinHOUSE Dance Theatre's The Great Green. AMIR KHOSROWPOUR: COMPOSER Praised by The Los Angeles Times as having "irresistible verve, unpretentious directness, and fingers of steel," pianist and composer Amir Khosrowpour "seeks out what is new and vital and delivers it with passion, considerable drama, and poetry" (NY Concert Review). In addition to a score for Dancing with Demons, the 2012-13 season's productivity included music for New York-based The Actors Company Theatre, collaboration on a new musical with playwright Andrea Thome, and pieces for choreographers Nicoll+Oreck (featured in last year's Boulder Fringe), The 92Y, and Susan Cherniak Hyde.
