Lakewood Cultural Center Presents Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN

Lakewood Cultural Center Presents Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN ImageMarking the 200th anniversary of its original publication, Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" will be brought to life by Aquila Theatre on the Lakewood Cultural Center stage. In the first true science fiction novel, Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss scientist driven by his passion for progress, succeeds in creating an artificial human being. Overwhelmed and terrified by his remarkable invention, he abandons the life he created, and horrific events unfold. Two centuries later, "Frankenstein" still poses a myriad of critical ethical questions - just because it can be done, should it be done?

Aquila Theatre, one of the foremost producers of touring classical theater in the United States, takes on this gothic and tragic tale with its signature style and superb actors. Set in modern day, the production is a bold reinterpretation that will thrill contemporary audiences while paying homage to the original novel.

Aquila Theatre has been the permanent company-in-residence at the Center for Ancient Studies at New York University since 1998, and it is internationally known for its productions of classical drama and its theater arts education initiatives. Each year Aquila presents productions at more than 50 venues throughout the country. Aquila is described as "extraordinarily inventive" by The New York Times, and The New Yorker hails Aquila as making classic theater "relevant with superb acting and clever staging." Learn more at AquilaTheatre.com.

Tickets start at $20 and are available at 303-987-7845, Lakewood.org/LCCPresents or the Lakewood Cultural Center Box Office, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and West Alameda Avenue).

The Lakewood Cultural Center Presents 2018-2019 season is generously supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), celebrating 30 years of culture for all; Colorado Creative Industries; National Endowment for the Arts; and The Denver Post Community. Additional support for this performance is provided by WESTAF.
