Buntport Theater to Present 10 MYTHS ON THE PROPER APPLICATION OF BEAUTY PRODUCTS

By:

10 Myths on the Proper Application of Beauty Products, the first full-length show of Buntport's 15th Season, could be called an adaptation of local author Miriam Suzanne's novel Riding SideSaddle*. However, it is more like a supplement to the novel, which is printed on 250 interchangeable index cards and is an "open source" text, meant to be added to, adapted, morphed into something new. Following a group of friends that resist order, category and completion, this play weaves myth and storytelling with every day rituals. It is about people deeply in love, suffering loss, celebrating strangeness, all while they pluck their eyebrows. It is about the Greek myth of Salmacis and Hermaphroditus, who are merged into "one being of both sexes" and about what we see when we look in the mirror. Oh, and the whole thing is underscored by a band standing in the bathtub.

Buntport Theater Company is excited to kick off the first of three back-to-back world premiere productions. They are thrilled to be working with a local author and sharing the stage with fellow actors Diana Dresser and Michael Morgan as well as the musicians of Teacup Gorilla. While they have been continuing their on-going programming this season and have done collaborations with the likes of Stories on Stage and the Clyfford Still Museum, Buntport swings into full-performance-mode with this play, which will be immediately followed by two new works. All three Buntport productions will vary widely in tone and presentation style, but will all use myth and loss as undercurrents.

The source novel, Riding SideSaddle*, (now in its second printing) will be available in the lobby, along with other titles printed by SpringGun Press. Local band Teacup Gorilla will create an original score that they play live during every performance. And, as usual, Buntport will present an unusual collaboration that challenges the performers and the viewers.
