Uptown Players continues its 2009 season with the regional premiere of the musical comedy, Altar Boyz, held August 7 - September 6, 2009, at the KD Studio Theatre in Dallas.

Altar Boyz tells the inspiring story of five Catholic small-town boys from Ohio trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time. On the last night of their "Raise the Praise" U.S. tour, the Altar Boyz come to Dallas to rock the masses of all denominations. Join Matthew (Alex Ross), Mark (Drew Kelly), Luke (Brian Daniels), Juan (Angel Velasco) and Abraham (Mike Tuck) as they attempt to save souls and raise spirits with their spectacular music, sinfully sensational dancing and uncanny ability to drop the funk in freaky five-part harmony. Sharing a message of tolerance, love and the power of good hair products, this is one boy band manufactured in heaven.

This production is under the direction of Cheryl Denson, with music direction by Adam Wright and choreography by John de Los Santos. Understudies include Chris Amaya and Max Swarner.

Altar Boyz runs August 7 - September 6, 2009, with performances at 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. (there is no matinee August 9). Performances take place at the KD Studio Theatre, located at 2600 North Stemmons Freeway #180, Dallas TX 75207. Tickets are $25-$30 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.
